Or perhaps, more significant? But then again, can FF be relied upon to do the defensive work that Matias and Joao did yesterday? Definitely the tweak of system has helped. Joao and Matias were superb yesterday in their positional discipline. Away from home it worked a treat. I do wonder if we might see more of FF in home matches this season where there is more impetus on the home team.
thewookieisdown
In the old days you had maybe not more than 15 players altogether who were really first team level. You played your best 11 plus one sub and this was largely a consistent line up. Now you utilise a squad over a period of time, and an 18 man squad on the day. Questions about whether Fletcher is better than Nuhiu* are simply redundant; as are notions of pecking order, or best starting line up. One of the things that worried me about JL last season was that he was insufficiently active with his substitutions. We might well have won at home to Villa, for example, with a bit more intervention. These last three games he seems to have handled subs rather well. (In the good times, the previous manager was good at this). Most games are still in the balance on 65'; either a one goal lead or parity. The prospect that at this stage you can then bring on FF is always very juicy...
