Palmer and Bannan.

Recommended Posts

Playing high intensity football twice in a few days is challenging. Palmer I think finds it difficult to do this now. Windass is clearly not 100% match fit and is also rusty for being out for a few days. Diaby fasting for Ramadan must make it difficult and he did not look as sharp as he did on Saturday. Gassama looked lively and looked a threat but was probably not playing where he was told to do so. The subs briught fresh energy to the side and made a difference. Pedersen was the only one who did not make significant contribution. His legs have clearly gone in he has zero pace and is a bit of a liability.
Against a better midfield 3 centre halves is a better formation for us. We have struggled in midfield against the better teams. Last night the midfield players they had were quicker than ours and we were cut apart by them on several occasions. They had numerous opportunities to score but failed to do so with quick incisive breaks, some good goalkeeping and last ditch tackles helped save us but so did poor finishing. The two goals they scored were as a result of mistakes by us. Beadle passing was at fault but other players not blameless. Many of pass backs are slow and misplaced by a yard or so. This gives their strikers time to close down and exert pressure which results in poor passes or clearances. Building from back when successful clearly gives sides an edge but it comes with risk and unfortunately some players we have are not as comfortable on the ball when playing this type of game.
Just hope most of players fully recovered for the Stoke game.

Assuming that Poveda is crocked, these are our 2 main blueprint formations I’d assume
