For me Carayol was easily their best player, caused us the most trouble and was their biggest threat.

 

Agreed, either side of the keeper and that's a goal and he is at fault. Maybe it's a trait of his game, generally a decent defender but has lapses in concentration or poor decision making.

 

Carayol played well but I think he capitalised on the fact that although Reach can play left-back he is not a natural defender and so was overcompensating to not get beat on the outside which gave Carayol the opportunity to take advantage on the inside.

Yep that's what stopped him making the grade at a higher level IMO, it doesn't matter if you're very good at the skill/toughness side of defending which he is, if you are prone to a serious error probably once per match as he seems to be then you'll only get so far.
