Rolfey Posted May 14, 2018 Share Posted May 14, 2018 Herod Ruddlesden joined The Wednesday from Birdwell F.C in the summer of 1898 and slotted into the halfback line, being able to play equally well on either wing. His first season Wednesday were relegated to the Second Division, but in 1899-90 he was ever present as Wednesday regained their position in the top flight, claiming the Second Division title. He formed a settled half-back line alongside Tommy Crawshaw and Bob Ferrier as Wednesday took the Football League Championship in 1903 and the following season. Ruddlesden was capped three times for England. His final international was against Scotland in a 1-0 victory in1905. By now illness was beginning to restrict his appearances for Wednesday and he was forced to retire in 1906.
