If just one kid could make it then this sort of thing is so worth while, also kids of that age as i remember all too well can get intrested in the club with meeting players and coaches and maybe even be fans of the future. Maybe a free ticket or two wouldnt go a miss

DVC Sports is offering 50 lucky youngsters the chance to learn football skills for free - with the chance of sessions with a Championship coach.

The ON-Side Soccer football coaching programme at the Dearne Valley College sports centre will consist of fun games, ball control, effective passing and dribbling, shooting and turning techniques for girls and boys aged 8 -14 years of age.

For thADVERTISEMENTe first time the programme will be part of a satellite referral scheme meaning that, once a term, the Skills Coach from Sheffield Wednesday FC will attend the session and youngsters showing potential will be invited to attend the trials for the Owls' academy team.

Kerry Callan, Assistant Sports Centre Manager and FE Sports Co-ordinator, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to sample the coaching programme in association with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

"The free session will give children an excellent insight into the programme by developing their skills and knowledge of the game whilst learning from experienced coaches".

The free session kicks off on Tuesday January 20 and will be led by Clive Baker, a former Sheffield Wednesday academy director, along with Matt Burton, SWFC skills coach.

The session will last from 4.30pm until 6.00pm at the top class facilities on the 3G synthetic pitch based at DVC Sports, which is the only 3G synthetic pitch in the area. There are 50 free places available on a first come, first serve basis.

Children will need to bring with them a change of comfortable kit, trainers or moulded football boots and a drink. Parents and children are advised to arrive early to fill in a kid's club registration form available from DVC Sports before the session.

The continuous ON-Side Soccer programme is for boys and girls aged 8 - 14 years and will take place every Tuesday from 4.30pm – 6.00pm. A session costs £3.50 and 7 session's costs £18.00.
