SWFC Bar / Pub

Completely disagree.

However if a bar/pub was to be launched it would need to be done properly . Otherwise it would fail.

i.e food/ Drink/ Pricing/ Service standard/ Entertainment etc standards benchmarked by major multiple high street pub co's.

If offer to customers accross the board was sub standard then no chance- but thats obvious isnt it????

i often think Wednesdayite should take over the lease at the Gate pub, run it as a supporters bar with a % going direct to SWFC.

a proper run pub open 7 nights a week, doing meals, good family entertainment during the week, lots of special events,

comedians

bands

quizes

special SWFC guest appearance nights

pub only on match days

could work!

Anyone who thinks buying/leasing a pub would make money should take up the mike at these 'comedy nights'

Just have a drive around the city and look at the number of pubs boarded up. Pubs that don't alienate 50% of the population through its links to 1 of the football clubs in the city, and pubs that don't just rely on 23 decent takings a year.

There is no money in pubs. Supermarkets, credit crunch and the smoking ban have killed them. Anyone with any degree of commercial acumen would not touch a pub.

All the club need to do is maximise the space at Hillsborough.

This 'buy a pub' idea is plain bonkers.

don't think of it as a normal pub because it isn't

how many pubs start up with a guaranteed base of customers like this would have,

it would be more a community venture than your normal pub

a meeting place for wednesdayites to talk all things wednesday every day and every night

I think the owners of the Dev cat, Kelham Island Tavern, HH and the washington would disagree with you.

Stick the bath & the York and the fox & Duck on there as well.

All making money and ALL doing well.

Selling the same beer that you can get in supermarkets such as wee wee poor calsbergs, carling, Stella etc won't work, and won't make money as you can buy the same product cheaper else where.

The club should do a deal with Abbeydale, Kelham Island or even thornbridge breweries and get locally made beers on tap.

Now you CAN make money doing this as you can't buy this beer in the supermarket and it tastes miles better than larger qand other mass consumed wee wee poor beers.

And you can drink more of it. Pale Rider can down in vast quantities for instance.

Fair point about the Dev etc. Pubs like that, and the Milestone are excellent. I was trying to make the point that I don't reckon buying/leasing a pub would make commercial sense. The football ground must have loads of room where a proper theme pub could be developed. Lets use up our space, rather than paying for somewhere else. The logical place for a Wednesday pub would be Sheffield 6, so why not just have it in the ground, which we own?

Correct. Although if it only opened on Matchdays it might stand a chance.

a meeting place for wednesdayites to talk all things wednesday every day and every night

that was a quality day - if i remeber correctly the kick off was delayed alittle cos of the mass of wednesdayites coming into the ground late cos they'd been to visit phil kings bar - looked like a scene from the pipe piper or summat - was a baking hot day - therefor alot of beer had to be consumed - which apparently drank Kingys Bar dry

Happy Days

What happened to the SWFC pub experiance after the game today. We were promised extended opening after the game, went down after the game only to find all the shutters down on the bars and the stewards with no ideas whats going on (no change there then).
