daveyboy66 Posted December 16, 2010 Share Posted December 16, 2010 Tony curries testamonial,i remember it vividly,we got on the shorham end pretty early,wed met up in town,went in,in small groups,the older guys co ordinated it all,me and a mate were threatened with"you run,and youl be dogmeat next week!" We eventually massed around the point thier boys normally stood,and suddenly,out came the scarfes,and up when the call to arms "THE WEDNESDAY!!"took the OB by suprise,they gave it a go taking it back,but by then,the numbers had swelled,and they couldnt shift us,loads of scrums and rucks,half time in and around the boggs was a battlefield,throughout the game the chant "WE TOOK THE SHOREHAM....EASY EASY!" was used to entice them back,but the cops kept us both apart. Id heard a song,the previous season in a pig game at man utd tauting Currie,and i started to sing it,it was very quickly joined by the entire throng of owls "CURRIE WEARS A TAMPAX" rang out,the recipient looking less than amused on his big night Wed stood with a lad id stood with many times at games,from darnall i think,i only knew him as toomai,his name was from some obscure tv programme of the time,elephant boy i think it was. We went to that match from the Wharncliffe in Firth Park and when we got on the kop it was obvious that there was far more wednesday fans than the OB realised and we were looking round at each other and smiling knowing what was to come...only downside that night was one of the lads copping a snooker ball which later we found out was from another wednesday fan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was on the front page of the Sunday People next day which came as a bit of a shock to me mam. I know mate I was there, I was saying "bump" for WJ to come and defend his few lines of ba-bar. That was the match where the Chelsea front lad marched up the back of the kop in front of the 300 or so of them challenging all comers and Black Colin battered him!!! Two others I can think of were brothers wer'nt they called something like Errol & Verrell? If thats the match I'm thinking of they eventually got overpowered and ran across the pich into the south stand and lepps, or was that another Chelsea game? Ive seen footage of that game and when Chelsea scored their winner late on and the camera flicked towards the kop they were still in that bottom corner. Kept us in the ground for 20 minutes or so said there was an escort only to be taken part way down the road and we were attacked from 3 sides. The only way we got through it was straight forward as they were blocking the way to our transport. No respect for Chelsea as they only wanted a dust up when they had vast superior numbers.
