Dawson

Dawson is a sound enough keeper

No keeper is infallible - especially with some of ridiculous defending he's had to cope with

As we get more settled and confident so too will his confidence come back.

Hopefully folk will give him a bit of breathing space now

A fair summary.

Not sure why people think keepers are immune to playing in a poor side.

A lack of confidence spreads throughout all areas of a side.

You’re allowed to say both of these things…

Dawson had a good game today.

We need a better keeper than Dawson.

Both, today, are true. We don’t need a thread after every game with praise for minor things. Him and Palmer are loved, and hated, far too easily by our fans.

Much, much better - easily his best game this season.

Disappointed he didn’t get a clean sheet due to a defensive lapse

Totally agree but it’s not hard compared to some of his performances!

That being said, I don’t want to be too critical as he has been improving and that save from Vesteragaard could be the making of him. He seemed much more confident today and I think that could be his turning point…hopefully!

I remember Bob Bolder getting dog dirt when he first came into the team, the fans on his nackk all the time and Booing him, but in one game, Bolton I think, he came out to block a certain goal, and I think he got sent off for that, the fans saw his determination not to concede, and the rest, as they say, was History.

The criticism of Dawson has been a disgrace. Every goal that we concede fans are trying to find a way to blame him. It's pathetic. Vasquez could have equally been blamed for goals earlier in the season. Not many people on here are qualified to critique goalkeepers. It's a specialised position.

Dawson and no other professional keeper is saving their equaliser. I think most fans who don't rate Dawson, will realise a few days later, they are just being a bit silly.

Dawson is by no means perfect, but just watch MOTD. It's wall to wall keeping ******** ups, every week.

I must admit, I haven't been his biggest fan this season and thought he was at fault for several goals against us in matches and other situations where the opposition didn't score.  Not to the point where I have been screaming and shouting abuse about him, just general head shakes.

However, in my opinion, Dawson had a good game on Saturday.  He seemed calmer on the ball and in control.

After being a goalie in my school and early adult years, it really is the hardest position in my opinion, simply because most mistakes end up as a goal.

There were little things about Dawsons game that bugged me, but I have seen a difference in him since the new goal keeping coach has come on board, so hopefully they will be eradicated from his game.

Just for the record anyone who blames Dawson for the goal yesterday needs to give their head a good shake and as far as I am concerned has no credibility whatsoever.

Absolutely.

Just watch the players reaction to the goal, Bannan goes absolutely ballistic at Palmer...why? Because he was on his heels, let him get goal side and score with Palmer being nothing more than a statue at that moment in time.

Its beyond outrageous people even think to point at Dawson for that.

Who’d be a keeper for Sheffield Wednesday. Can’t do right for doing wrong.

It’s a tough position with no hiding place.

We have ‘one of our own’ in goal doing a steady job…  Man U spent £50m on a keeper and he’s useless.

Was going to say the same thing. The goalkeeping department is tricky for some of the biggest clubs in the world let alone a club languishing at the bottom of the league.

Arsenal have two 'good' goalkeepers and is struggling in that position.

James Trafford has struggled this season and he was very highly rated.

Retired to Liverpool reserves didn't he?

The only person you can question is Palmer.

Dawson turned in a pretty much perfect performance today

You can't question Johnson's not even half-hearted effort at blocking the cross then? Their winger was literally a yard away and Johnson made no attempt to stop it.

Palmer was definitely at fault - but the the ball should not have made it into the box in the first place.

Exactly what happened with Bannan not doing it the other week in the same area - half arsed, he didn’t get slated though.

Weve got to cut out the crosses and bust a gut before they reach the box
