The Sheffield Wednesday gem that emerged

So 5 made an impact. The rest ineffective at best, utter ghosts at worst.

5 is a bit harsh. Matias was a good player who did a good job for us when he played, just didn’t play nowhere near enough.

Joao, Wallace, Bannan, Forestieri, Hunt and Hooper we all good signings.

Price came in as 3rd choice keeper and did a job in his sparse game time.

So I’d look at it as 4 were flops and the two youngsters never kicked on.

Matias was crap apart from one moment away against Leeds. His reputation lives off that moment alone here. He also got himself sent off in the playoffs which cost us an option off the bench in the final if memory serves.

I missed João off of my five, perhaps being harsh in lumping him with the others though. I'll call it 5.5 simply because he actually made a few for us

I have to disagree re Matias thought he was a good player, not at first but when he came back after his injury second season. Still think there was more good than bad and that’s probably the best window we’ve had in 20 odd years !

Don't disagree re the window. Matias I do though 😉

Hey the forum wouldn't exist in all its glory if everyone agreed though

Ah the old undisclosed transfer amount

It’s like in TV crime shows when the person being interviewed by police says “no comment” to every question.  Fascinating stuff

I have a certain amount of sympathy with Rhodes. Many will disagree but I think that Karanka was the wrong manager for him at Middlesbrough and his confidence was shot when he came to us. As for the penalty, I would rather have a player who's confident of scoring take one than one who isn't.

Wallace & Bannan on frees is an incredible bit of business (especially in the context of the other signings!)

I recall Hooper and FF "only" being £3m a piece. Big money compared to what we'd been used to but even at the time I thought that was a snip for 2 top quality Championship assets.

The wreckless, completely directionless and aimless spending and approach to the market didn't start until after that season.

The "undisclosed" probably hides many transactions that gets players to a club, Columbo would find the answer mate. There are some interesting thoughts on various sites a about why clubs do this.

Because that good window was done under the stewardship of the transfer committee run by Roeder and co, and say what you will about him as a manager but in that kind of role or as a DOF he was class.  Wish we had kept hold of him.

I kinda expect all forwards to be keen to take penalties.  Their ovetpaid job is to score goals.  I do not think it is atcall OK for a professional  to say yes to one situation and no to another.
