A must - A new striker

Recommended Posts

There aren’t many teams who aren’t always on the lookout for a striker… agree Gregory is talented but another who is very much on the downturn through his injuries.

hopefully Smith with take some confidence from last night and kick on.

I’m not expecting much action in January, plenty of teams around us have injuries too, it just happens at this time of year

Yes it’s so tough to find a striker. Especially a young one. For every Kenwyn Jones there’s a Ken Dodd and for every Tammy Abraham there’s a Tammy Wiynette.

I wonder if a proven but ageing higher division player on loan is the answer. Does the class of Lucaz Jutkiewicz outweigh his ageing frame? But that’s just an example - he plays every single game at Brum but usually cameos.

But to repeat, an out and out striker is needed.

If you don’t think we look better with two strikers you aren’t watching. And as for the results - chalk and cheese (and not just any cheese….the finest runniest Camembert on fresh baguette).

We can’t get thru the next 22 league games (and lift the cup) with only Smith an out and out and healthy striker. I love Pato to death, and unlike many fans I’d be really happy to see him get 5 or 6 starts alongside Smith and be subbed on up top in most games. But he’s not the answer to the question “How do we guarantee promotion?”

Windass, Wilks or Mighten? Never. Wide, yes. Striker partner for Smith, absolutely not.

Lone-striker? Nope - we won’t go up. We become aimless and don’t get enough points.

Absolute must - we have to loan or buy a striker in this window.

Not a floater. Not a ‘forward’ - we’ve too many of them and they can’t get a start quite rightly. Not a Da Cruz what is he? Not a Kachunga what the fek is he? But an out and out, up the top, through the middle, width-of-the-penalty box centre forward.

352. Perm any two from Smith, Gregory, New with Pato in reserve. Job done.

Agree we need to play with 2 up top but I'm not convinced that either Pato, Windass, Wilks & certainly not Mighten are the answer.

Deffo need someone who can link with Smith and Gregory as much as I'd prefer it to be him is struggling fitness wise.

New striker please DC.

I agree if we're going to get a striker in it needs to be a proven one, we need an impact over 4 -5 months not promise for the future,  that can come in the summer.

I can’t see us signing another striker, unless we sell Pato/Windass. Maybe a loanee if Wilks really is a dud.

Wilks on paper looked like the type of player we needed but he’s been useless, so I suspect DM will be working hard behind the scenes to get him firing…surely he’ll come good eventually?!?

I expect Windass will find form when it’s contract/transfer time too.

And the prize goes to Utah Owl. Just about every team in the league(s) will be looking for THE striker and every team that has one spare will inflate the price they're asking.

It's an opinion you've banged on about endlessly for some time but I have to say I agree. I hope DM can see it too.

January is a difficult market at the best of times and it’ll be no different in 2023.

Just don’t see us bringing in the type of forward we probably need. He may try and see what he can do with Wilks but who knows how that will pan out.

I think recent events make it unlikely we’ll sell Paterson. We’d be best served keeping him here. Moore might get a tune out of Windass after benching him but I would trust the manager to manage his resources which he’s done quite well with for the most time he’s been in charge here.

I do wonder if he might chuck the likes of Cadamarteri and Shipston into the fray at some stage of this season but we all need to hold our nerve and not lose our sh!t should the window not work out how we want it too or we have one or two iffy results. The manager in particular and the players deserve our trust and backing.

We have been linked with Tom Cannon, young striker at Everton. He came off the bench for them in the last game and this would be a great loan if we could get him.

We’ve also been linked with Luke McNally, young centre half at Burnley. He signed for them from Oxford last season for around £1.8m.

2 young potential loans to keep an eye out for.
