Setting Up Not To Lose

Our tactics/approach seems to be very focused on us not losing as opposed to actually going for the win.

Away from home to better teams I understand this but it’s tough to watch this approach to the likes of Oxford at home!

Yes we’re very good defensively - yet another clean sheet albeit we owe Dawson for that. Great to see this considering how many CBs we have out!

But going forward we offer very little!
- Starting 1 striker up top.

- Starts 2 defensive mids in CM.

- Windass just floats about with little impact and is often too deep.

No real patterns of play and little identity too. Little supply to our strikers. We’re  relying on a worldie every game as it stands.

Its how Moore has set us up in all the big games in the past, Forest at Home, Derby Away, playoffs, and again against most of top 6.

Its why I have no confidence about going up via the playoffs - please please Moore prove me wroing (If he is still here that is)

Very good OP summary of our current approach.

The lone-striker thing kills me.

Weve Smith and Gregory yet he leaves one or other benched while Windass strolls around doing absolutely feck all week after week after week………………mind-blowing.

First half I'm afraid was simply an exercise in timidity, in not trusting our "supposed" best squad in the division to beat the opposition at home.

Sure bannan was injured, byers was missing, but the work Gregory had to do was bordering on ridiculous.

winning the ball in m idfield and the only option to play it back, or at best sideways, when he's just the sort of player who can lay it off to another forward, or run off another forward..No other bloody forward..Oxford at home?..seriously Darren?

The OP is spot on

Fizz came on with about 25 minutes left, with Smith and wed looked dangerous...We finished with what we should have started with...Why..timid of..OXford United ..at home

Go figure

I hate the way Moore sets us up. We have some very good players and to me it looks like the are being held back by negative tactics. Moore seems more bothered about not losing against some real crap rather than going out to beat them.

Handbrake is constantly on isn’t it.

Spot on! Subs made us look much better with playing two up top too!

Yes, but have you seen his Stats!

Nah..I'm simply unfortunate enough to tip up and freeze while watching that!..particularly first half..darren needs to realise you can win a match in 90 minutes, not decide to just give it a punt in the last 25..starting with a lone striker was daft..and be honest Oxford should have won..That glaring miss from 6yds and the Pen...

I think he’s over thinking things.

or maybe I am?

what I noticed today in the warm up is that usually when we play a back 3 we warm up as a back 4, Johnson is usually not there. Today because we started with a back 4 we warmed up as a 5 to try and trick the opposition?
