"He can trap the ball further than I can kick it....!"

Recommended Posts

Supposedly said by Ron Atkinson about Carlton Palmer.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (I've been away), but what was Josh Windass trying to do from kickoff on Saturday?

With that pass it feels like he should be trying to control it. Maybe he is trying to pass it (though there doesn't seem to be anyone ready to receive a pass in that direction). So maybe he was trying to trap it.

Whatever he meant to do, it went over the advertising hoardings, past the stand, over the trees and very nearly cleared a row of terraced houses behind the trees.....

(9 seconds in...)

My favourite quote from Big Ron, again talking about Carlton was  'he finishes like Devon Loch' a horse that fell over near the finishing line.

‘Runs like Najinsky and finishes like Devon Lock’  😀

A bit of match banter we probably shouldn't make too much of. Turns into a witch hunt.

He was one of the brighter players on the pitch in an absolutely terrible game.

Yes, absolutely, he's still one of our best players, but I still can't work out what that touch was supposed to look like. My two working theories:

1) Cameron Dawson used to get pelters off old Mr. Glossop in number 23 and bet Windass he couldn't smash his greenhouse during the game.

2) Windass is as bored as I am of watching the extended highlights showing the first minute of the game where nothing happens until the ball goes out of play and decided to do the editor a favour.

I didn't notice this even happened until I watched the video again. This is my favourite hypothesis.

Think he was trying to spin it with the outside of his boot for the runner… but messed it up.

Don’t think it’s betting scam related.

This.

Tried releasing Johnson down the left but got his connection wrong.

One of those things.

It happens.

Especially at the level we're playing at.

Truth is, these are still highly skilled athletes, doing things most of us only dream about.

Have to cut a man some slack and get behind him, sometimes.

Have you ever known yourself to thrive and prosper under negative criticism.

It's a fine line between that and debate.

But something to ponder.

uto - Cam Dawson for't win today.
