Exeter away end - SWFC banned the booze

According to a steward on Saturday it was Wednesday's decision not to allow the sale of alcohol in the away end. Pretty surprised it is our decision and not he host club but also wonder what was behind the decision.

Think I would hope to be a little less gullible & question the stewards integrity!

Stewards love winding up Wednesday fans, once gave us wrong directions to the toilets, how they laughed.

Could have been a windup of course, but the guy seemed genuine, and it wasn't in response to me complaining about it. I was just chatting to him before they opened the turnstiles. There was a bar in the 'fan zone' that away supporters could use but from an Exeter perspective I would have thought there would have been a significant drop in revenue involved.

If it was our decision I wonder if the club were concerned about reputation as the ground is in a very residential area and thinking back to Gillingham last year, there were some incidents with disappointed fans breaking windows. Or maybe they were worried about full bladders with a long journey home to come after the game.

What would the steward gain by lying though?

I wasn't complaining about it and neither did I make any comment that I was disappointed as personally I wasn't planning on having a drink.  In fact, as it was before I went in I could have quite easily gone round to the Thatcher's bar in the fanzone and bought myself a drink if I'd wanted.

Hot Chocolate was £2.00 a cup. Can't see a problem, very reasonable and quickly served.;

It was definitely a Bovril or hot chocolate day rather than a day for a cold pint and they even gave free tea or coffee to the first 50 people through the turnstiles.

No complaints from me personally as I'm not a huge away day drinker but just struck me as odd if it's true what he said, and it was Wednesday's decision.

Like Wednesday can tell a rival business to cut their revenue when the biggest away allocation all season is in town lol

The steward was thinking on his toes getting ready for Wednesday fans sobering up and wondering where their next pint was coming from.

I certainly couldn’t watch Wednesday sober at the moment.

One of the SWFC stewards in the away end at Lincoln was telling me he cleans the toilets and concourses in the North after home games and they find not only cocaine wraps but evidence of heroin use after every game.

Smacks of b***s**t that.

So you're saying that Exeter themselves decided to cut their revenue when the biggest away allocation all season was in town. You could argue that they didn't want the hassle but that also seems odd from a purely commercial perspective.

As I've said, I was pretty much sober and hadn't made any complaint so the steward would have to be playing the long game if it was part of some sort of strategy. It did strike me as odd though and that's why I posted about it.

Yes that’s what I’m saying

Exeter didn’t want Wednesday fans drinking

Its not Wednesdays decision

The Steward was sticking to his story because it’s a good one
