The main difference is that we were nowhere near two points a game last December ...end of discussion

The O.P poses the question with regards to comparing this seasons team with last.

Any dumbass can see we have more points this season relative to last season, stop trying to shut down the discussion just because you don't want to engage.

I don't think we are better or worse than we were last year. I just think we've learned to be smarter.

I fear the remainder of the season will be grinding results by whatever means. I think we'll get promoted, but should prepare ourselves for a lot of quite boring, frustrating games.

I think our tactical flexibility is a major advantage over last season, especially away from home.

Being able to move between a back three and a back four depending on the game, or state of the game, has really improved our record on the road so far.

Having said that, there are a few players who I reckon would walk straight back into our match day squad: in particular Storey, Dean and Luongo.

Luongo is the main loss. That midfield trio he formed with Byers and Bannan was superb, and we've seen nothing of the sort in his absence.

Personally feel this side that beat Cambridge 6-0 last season was better than a lot of the line ups we’ve had this season.

Injuries aren’t helping of course, particularly to Ihiekwe and Byers, and now Bannan. But I also preferred Gregory and Berahino playing in a front two.  Never thought I’d say it when we first signed him but I don’t think we’ve replaced Berahino with a similar type of striker.

You’ve got to throw Berahino into this too.

We entered this season with only two proper strikers on the books, Gregory and Smith.

Compare Saido last year with the strikers we’ve used this year:-

Berahino 8 goals in 1375 mins

Gregory 4 in 1087

Smith 4 in 1197

Windass 4 in 1490

Yes when you also consider that Storey and Hutch are championship defenders and Peacock-Farrell is Ireland’s number one keeper.

To get back to that kind of level we don’t need too much in January,  a centre back and striker with better movement and finishing ability are essential.  Hopefully Byers will be back soon, if him and Bannan are out then a midfielder with passing ability is needed too.

Our strikers are doing fine. It’s just that Moore won’t partner them.

Gregory 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 620 minutes.

Smith 4 goals and an assist in his last 570 minutes.

The issue is Moore plays Windass who has completely and utterly dried up.

That said, I agree with you we need a third proper striker in the imminent window. Two proper strikers is not enough.

Agreed, more specifically Moore is playing Windass over Gregory. Which is fair enough as an experiment but he's mental to keep persisting with it.

Definitely miss that Berahino type striker.

We're also missing Hunt and Johnson's form

Going to be interesting to see if Johnson takes more responsibility for getting crosses over if Bannan is out. James will have to step up also; he’s playing superbly but the one thing lacking is a willingness to fire crosses in.
