Manager Bannan

Recommended Posts

Good luck to him, certainly knows the game.

However, may have to mellow a bit as he is very intense on the field, which is great but not so good sometimes off it with certain types of players from a management perspective.

He's working under a good man manager in Moore though and sure he will learn a few things.

Hopefully he has a few years yet playing, but would love him in and around the club in some capacity to learn his coaching trade thereafter

Absolutely...have to take the sting out, and go with the flow much more when leading people.

Good on him looking to further his career, and perhaps he can gain some coaching experience with us as he carries on playing over the coming years.

I hope there isn't too much of a clamour for him to become manager though. After Howard Wilkinson (who only played a couple of dozen times for the first team) we've tried all manner of ex-players in the role:

Peter Eustace

Trevor Francis

Danny Wilson

Chris Turner

Gary Megson

Garry Monk

Lee Bullen (as caretaker)

And while some of them had their moments, they have not often left with their reputation enhanced. So I'm not sure 'knowing the club' is as big an advantage as is claimed. Certainly he should be given the chance to learn the profession in Scotland or the lower leagues before we consider him here.

Ex players becoming managers,

Who is the best type of manager,  I know not many keepers have become managers. But midfielder are they better than Strikers or defenders.

Looking at the EPL:-

Lampard, Gerrard, Arteta, Emery, Vierira, Guardiola and Conte all midfielder,

Moyes, Potter, Rodgers all defenders as was our current manager.

I bet a Bannan side will be a, getting the ball down and passing side where as a Hutch side would be based on work rate and grit.

Very few managers leave their clubs to a heroic send off.

Can only think of Ferguson and Wenger off the top of my head as eventually most of them leave on a downer.

Wouldn't want Bannan's last involvement at Wednesday to be a bitter one. He'll be a great manager I'm sure but when he eventually moves on, I'd prefer to remember him as one of our modern day heroes.

Pearson (whatever you may think of him) got it right. The lasting memory of Pearson for most Wednesday fans is of him lifting the cup.

Hopefully, our lasting memory of Bannan will be of him leading a promotion party.
Or two. 😉

I always thought not only would Sheridan manage here but he’d also be successful. Obviously I was wrong as he’s never been close to getting the job and probably never will now.

I mention Sheridan because Bannan is a very similar player and may have a very similar management style? I suspect he’ll carry on playing for another 3 or 4 years and will probably initially get involved with our academy which would be a good start for him.
