Since 1971
39 years ago today. November 1983. Wednesday 4-2 Newcastle United. A wonderful game in a wonderful season. We did the double over promotion rivals Newcastle, steaming through them at Hillsborough and a tight one nil away the following April. Having got to November unbeaten in all competitions, it was a cold, misty day at Hillsborough and a 41,000 crowd. Over 10,000 Geordie came down, but not the 15,000 they claim were there! Waddle, Beardsley and Keegan played for Newcastle. Tony Cunningham made his home debut for us and scored a great goal. Keegan moaned after the game that our style wasn't "football" we wouldn't be able to keep up that pace through the winter heavy pitches. Wrong on both points. Happy days.
parkfieldowl14
Nearly 40 years ago when we played that fixture. Doesn't time fly. Brilliant game and i'd just wish to see the look on King Kev's face after the way we took them apart.
