Bogey teams and clean nose teams

Recommended Posts

It is true - I've run the numbers and Shrewsbury are the bogiest of bogey teams for us in League One. Here is the table. Good news is the majority of the teams in this league (in green) we beat more often than we lose to them. Bad news is our next 4 games are against our 4 bogey teams in this league, Shrewsbury (1st), Derby (4th), Exeter (2nd) and Oxford (3rd). Then we get the blessed relief of a snot-free game against Fleetwood:

(For ease I've just included all matches, league and cup, in the points per game calculation. If only including league games our record against Shrewsbury is even worse: P18, W1, D11, L6 = 0.78ppg!)

I just posted in the OMDT that today sees the first of four consecutive victories against teams we have poor records against. I didn't realise they were the top four in this league.

It'll be all the sweeter when we beat them now!

PS We will also beat Plymouth when we next play them.

Speaking of a run of bogey teams, next week we play Mansfield who are, I think, the only club in the EFL that we've never beaten in a league game (excluding the handful of clubs that we've never actually played in the league yet).  Good job it's a cup game then.

Last season Rotherham and Wigan got promoted not beating the top teams but still got promoted. With 27 wins from 46 games. They both conceded less than 1 goal a game.

This season we have two teams above averaging better than 2 points a game after 18/19 games. This season we need to beat everyone and take the 3 points against both Ipswich and Plymouth when we play them again. Only 1 team last season averaged 2 points a game all season and Wigan went up as Champions.

We have taken 14 points from our last 6 games but so have Plymouth and Ipswich have 11.

Correct.  But weve played them five times in cups and won all five.

Just bumping this.

Even thought the past 4 games have been largely awful - if this bogey teams theory holds any water - then we should be happy with 6 points from 4 games against these bogiest 4 teams. Our average haul would be 4.5 points from 4 games.

And it is Fleetwood on Boxing Day - we've never not beaten Fleetwood!
