Shrewsbury throwback. Mike Lyons & a young Nigel Pearson both brilliant Captain’s for me Lyons was just a bit better the sight of him running out of the tunnel every game & jumping up to head a Imaginary ball with his chest out ready for battle was a brilliant sight going in to battle a great signing by Big Jack  . Big Nigel lifting our last major trophy chipping in with lots of goals injuries towards the end of his career was very unfortunate would loved to have seen him alongside Des Walker for longer

Which game was it when he ran into the dressing room during the game and came back with head bandages?

Liverpool home

Liverpool game was when he got done in the first minute by Michael Robinson, had stitches put in his ankle in the tunnel rather than go to the dressing room to save time, then came back on to the disbelief of Robinson. Warrior.

I've a vague memory that the game he was covered in blood was at Wolves, the game when Bannister missed 2 penalties, but it can't have been, thinking about it surely we wouldn't have worn the yellow shirt there.

Got confused with Terry Butcher about the head bandages

This was an epic match, we were so close to beating the best team in Europe......with the mighty Walsall waiting for us in the semi final! Nearly 50,000 crammed into Hillsborough (only about 4,000 Liverpool fans) on a January evening was an immense sight, great atmosphere

I remember getting into the ground at 5.30pm for a 7.45pm kick off. (They opened the turnstiles especially early due to the expected crowd size.) Watching the ground get fuller and fuller. It felt we were big time again even through still a Division 2 side.

I totally agree but according to a few of our posters cup games are a waste of time and we should just concentrate on the league.

Unfortunately, the cups aren't what they were due to the attitude of the bigger clubs. However, those of us of a certain vintage will look back very fondly on many cup ties.....the Arsenal marathon in 79, Burnley in 83, Liverpool in 84, Chelsea in 91, Man Utd in 91, United in 93 to name but a few. What is it about night cup matches that makes them special?

The Liverpool 2-2 was up there with the best atmospheres at Hillsborough ever experienced. That Liverpool side were as good as anything this country has produced.

Burnley match special as was the 4-2 over Newcastle in the promotion season.
