We could be at Man City’s level and some  still wouldn’t be happy. This is why the Wednesday Job is one of the toughest around.

We wouldn't ever get anywhere near Man City's level without the desire to keep on improving, all the OP stated was that we need to do better against other top 8 sides, what is wrong with that?

Do you think Man City and Liverpool think ' Do you know what, as long as we beat Southampton and Villa every week, who cares how we do against other teams in the top 6'?

It was a tongue in cheek comment but as always it gets this sort of response that sort of sums up life on here these days. Despite us challenging for what we all want, for some reason the atmosphere on here is as flat as a f@rt in an astronaut suit and there is always someone willing to pick apart a post, Moore’s team selections/tactics or something else or another.

Maybe whats got missed is that part of the OP was we have only conceded 7 in 14 against the lower sides. This is a phenomenal effort.

My point was that in building a better overall L1 defence that we lost some top end quality. IE Dean Storey Hutch.

If we can staunch the flow against better sides by landing a Dean type player we should.

And its that we conceded 9 in 4 games against the other 4 teams in the top 5.

Weve conceded just 7 goals in 14 games against teams outside the top 6

Seems the defence this season hasnt quite got the class of last season but is more robust against the lower ranked sides.

This for me is the biggest task to address in the transfer window.

Bring back Hutch...🏴‍☠️😉

We wouldn't get anywhere near Man City's level unless we could get Arab state ownership and that doesn't seem to be in the pipeline.

Although we've still had injuries I think a more stable backline has contributed to this. Michael Ihiekwe may not have the reputation of Harlee Dean however he has excellent experience at this level and amassed 96 appearances over the past two seasons before this. Dean managed just 7 games for us whereas Ihiekwe has already hit 21. Even Mark McGuinness has managed 15 (and he's had an injury).

Id like to think we just have a little more nuance/ know how this season which is contributing to this.

yep...we seem to be able to see games out which is something we didn't do until the last couple of months last season...upwards and onwards

How many times have we messed up playing the ball out from the back ?

I expect the number of goals we've conceeded by playing out from the back is fewer than the number of goals we've scored because of it.

Unfortunately it's not a stat that's easy to measure. It's also impossible to say how many fewer we've conceded by playing it out from the back, since giving it the big boot every time usually ends up with the ball coming straight back a few seconds later and you end up under constant pressure and camped in your own box. Perhaps this is one of the reasons we don't seem to appear too panicked holding onto a lead going into the final 10 minutes like we have in previous seasons.
