The Quality Of League One Teams

Recommended Posts

Well if there that good, why are they in Div 3??.....and why do they REMAIN here season after season? The ONLY Q is do we want to join the group of Clubs languishing here? Too good to drop further, not good enough to go back up.....

That IS what it boils down to......

YES standards have probably gone up a little with the overall money in Football generally, but the longer we dont lead & top this Division, the more the pressure will build....

Burton Forest green etc are two of the worse teams to ever grace the third tier..yday was like a training game..I can’t believe we are still mixing it with this shower of shizen

Totally agree,we should be setting up to walk through these teams and put THEM under pressure staright away.....Get the ball FORWARD, Quicker,,stop them man marking BB or if they do,exploit the gaps left by that, and where teams play the inevitable High press tactics lump it forward over them.

Play Patterson,Smith, and Gregory, and bring Windass on later when one tires....

It’s awful personally and if of us, Ipswich, yourselves can’t get out of it we must be awful as well

That Lincoln game we lost was like our lowest point. Having Daytripper  Lincoln fans chanting “Derby, getting battered everywhere they go“ was lovely :duntmatter:

How do you get a team to stop man marking your best player other than to not play him??????????? Them doing so doesn't really create gaps as it just needs 1 of there players to be disciplined enough to be Bannans shadow.

A handful of decent clubs, with large grounds, crowds and squads.

The rest are rubbish generally. They might raise their games when they play one of the big boys, but otherwise very mediocre.

The nickname the pub league is fair. The cream has already risen to the top. According to the bookies, Plymouth will be third and finishing top is between us and Ipswich. The rest are also rans, even at this stage. A turgid bunch of teams that instigate no excitement when they're next up on the fixture list.

The sooner we're out of it, the better.

The standard of football played in England at all levels is miles above what it was in previous decades

Nearly every player has been coached and guided since they were about 5, with a much greater focus on control and movement compared to the run hard and long training that used to be the case in this country

Has it improved since 10 years or so ago ?

I feel like there’s still the usual journeymen and a few terrible teams, but overall there’s a lot more variation in tactics and more passing than there used to be.

Some of the clubs have players that could do a decent job in a Championship squad, but are in League One playing regularly.

I’ve thought about this a lot in the last two seasons. The quality of football is far better now than previous seasons for example 2004-05 under Sturrock and 2011-12 Jones/ Megson. Back then there were a lot more kick it long and then play off the second ball type sides. Under Megson/ Jones especially we were very good at scoring from set pieces Llera/Reda. Now we have a lot more slick passing movement. League one now has many ex premiership sides that it never really had before. To get promoted out of league one this season could be a bigger achievement than those other 2 seasons

I think what changed in the last 10 years is teams seem more reliant o loaning players from higher up the leagues instead of developing their own.

I would love to see the laws on loan players reduced to 1 or 2 players not 5 or 6 as it currently is.
