Referees to clamp down on time wasting

Recommended Posts

Nothing will change.

Maybe in the first game or two.

Remeber when they took a zero tolerance stance to foul language against the ref years ago and one of our players got sent off in something like the first few minutes of a game?

Then put the TV on after only to see Rooney effing and jeffing right in the face of the ref who just pretends he's not there.

Same thing will happen here.

Give it a token go (probably at our expense again) and then slip back into the usual routine.

Cannot for the life of me, see why a game clock isn’t used as in most other similar sports.

Player goes down, rolls around. After 5 seconds the clock stops.

Player gets subbed. Takes longer than 20 seconds to get off the pitch, his replacement ( not him) gets booked.

Once a free kick is awarded, any opposition player touches the ball, kicks it away, walks off with it, gets an immediate booking.

You play a full 90 minutes on the game clock, once it reaches 90, the next time it goes out of play, end of game.

Instead of games being killed off in the last twenty minutes (or the last 40 in some cases), games would come alive and players would know to the second how long was left.

The only thing that worries me is that these refs love time wasting as it means they have to work 25% less. Playing a full 90 minutes would kill half the useless fuc**ers.

Have said it before - it’s very simple - make the captain responsible for the behaviour of his team. That stops the sharing out of the cheating. He gets warned once, twice, third time a booking. He gets warned once, twice, third time a second booking and early bath.

You'd just make your worst player the designation captain

He’d still carry the can, down to10 men and all that. And if they subbed the captain the new one picks up the running total for the duration of the game. What a refreshing site watching the ladies play without cheating. Fed up with the deliberate cheating tactics and coaching that goes on in the men’s game.

Everything needed is already in place in other sports.

Stopclock. Most sports these days.

Timed throwin/free kick. Basketball.

Only captain can speak to ref. Rugby.

Drop the clock to 60 minutes, 5 second count for throw, 15 for free kick, injured players off if more than 30 seconds. No dissent, only captain and players called over can speak to ref.

Ref's and var miked up and audible.

Job done.

Just pass the armband around and laugh at it.

That's a quaint idea..

They would never send a player off for time wasting, they haven't got the balls.

Exactly this.

Look how many times a keeper gets a yellow for time wasting, and then a warning, and another warning and another and so on….

Refs never have any intention of sending off a keeper for time wasting so there’s no chance an outfield player will be sent off

(Having says that ….Sods law says one of ours will on the first game of the season then any clampdowns will be dropped)

need to cut down on these teams constantly abusing the long throw. you'll have say a left back with a long throw and they constantly let him walk 60 yards across the pitch as slow as he can to take the throw, only for him to throw it short

Nay - captain remains captain whilst ever on the pitch. If they sub him he carries any bookings as normal and the “replacement captain” carries the running total in the game. We’ve got a 4th official who can keep tabs.

Can they also make sure throw ins are taken from the correct spot, the amount of time the taker get 10 yards with the line shuffle before taking the throw. Its basically cheating but one that the referees do nothing about.

As with any clamping down on rules its the consistency that is the problem. One referee with book a player another one won't even acknowledge the infringment.

And the tactic of blatantly pinching ten yards then saying sorry when the ref waves them back. Cue the slow walk back and asking "Just here ref?". Throws should be taken from the right place by the nearest player, not waiting for another to dawdle across.

And then starting the run up from that spot, actually taking the throw from even further forward than before, with the ref completely lacking the balls to do anything about it.

But if a ref can (maybe) award an indirect free kick in the penalty area while he hold it too long, attitudes will change.

Didn't this happen to Chris Turner (?) at Blackpool one night when the 10 second rule came in?
