Popular Post Holmowl
An ever-present player plays 4140 minutes of league football. Meaning our twin-striker positions require 8280 minutes. Last season:- Smith 4001 Gregory 2746 Windass 365 ———————— Total 7112 We all have our favourite of the 3, or our fancied pairing, but if we can fill almost all of those 8280 minutes perming any two from three I really believe we will be hard to stop this season. The more I hear about Smith’s all-round game the more I think he’ll play a huge part, with the others playing fewer minutes, staying fit and fresh (crossing fingers and touching wood) and loving life as the partner of a big goal-scoring workhorse. We started last season with Gregory, Kamberi, Green and Paterson. We lost Green and brought in an out of condition Berahino who wasn’t fit until January. This season we start with three very talented and very different players sharing the twin-striker roles. Some of us don’t see Windass as a proper striker, but many fans think he’s the best of our 3. Whoever is right isn’t that important. If he stays fit, and Gregory can avoid the lay-off he suffered last season, we should be in brilliant shape with these 3 leading the line, feasting on the quality and quantity of opportunities provided by Bannan, Johnson and Hunt. I also wonder if we might see our longer-balls being more successful with these 3. Windass’s pace and Smith’s presence makes fast direct play far more of a threat. Very hopeful. Very optimistic. Roll on Saturday.
Barnsleyowl1996
Looking good but we need at least one more up there . 5 subs and injuries etc + rotation . I know we are looking and hopefully get one over the line soon. All it takes is smith to get injured and we’re down to windass and Gregory with Paterson on the bench for example
GermanBird
I have no insider knowledge, but I am sure that we'll have another striker on our books before the Saturday game. Question is just, who will it be?

Nero
Good to see positivity Personally i haven't seen anything yet to suggest that these players naturally fit together. For instance none of them look for the pass to a better placed colleague, particularly Windass. Being a striker these days is also about stopping the defence playing out. Pressing at the right time. Are they any good at that collectively? Interesting to see how this goes.
room0035
Smith has barely played in pre season was carrying a knock up to the last game then played 10 minutes. Gregory when fit scored us 17 goals but only played the full 90 on 19 occasions out of 46 games. i suspect if we dont get someone in soon we are going to be seeing too much of the useless Paterson up front. I heard yesterday that Lewis Grabbin is still a free agent, scored 12 in 32 last season and at 34 fits into DM recruitment policy. 1

Albertowl
If you consider our attacking options, as opposed to simply our strikers, we have lost 5 from last season and so far replaced them with one plus hopefully a fully fit Windass Gone: Kamberi Sow Berahino Shodipo Theo/NML Arrived: Smith 5 subs this season - we still need at least 2 more attacking options for me.

DIPPS_S.W.F.C
I think a fully fit Windass will tear this division up once he's got an understanding with Smith.I think 2 out of the 3 being switched around most games away from home, then can see us playing all 3 in some home games with Sow and cameo rolls.Sow did actually show some nice glimpses last season he can play.Agree need some pace tho out wide mix it up a bit. CourteenerOwl
I think a lot of people will be disappointed with Smith and are expecting him to be better than what he is. He averages 1 in 4 in his career and whilst he may be decent as a plan b for us, he isn't in the same league as Gregory as an all round player. He scored one more goal last season than Madine scored for us in a season he missed 3 months. I can't see Smith being any different to what Nuhui was for us. Rotherham suited his strengths last season, we won't.

The best that I can recall was Ian Rush..I used to tell the forwards "Get the ball back asap and you dont have to run as far".

Unfortunately I don’t think moore will do this. We need another Striker and another attacking player asap. If we spend too much time relying on what we have I think people will be disappointed.
