Hull Daily Mail sports writer's thoughts on Mallik Wilks

Recommended Posts

"He had an injury in pre-season, he then picked up another early on and just never got himself going. He was then brought back into a team that was struggling and not really creating too many chances, and he just didn't really look a threat"

"He scored a goal at Reading in a 1-1 draw and you thought that might kick-start his season, but it didn't. He then picked up another injury just before Christmas at Nottingham Forest and that set him back again."

"His laissez-faire way of going about things will often lull opponents into a false sense of security. He can go missing in games and his lack of awareness is frustrating for fans and teammates alike. He missed a lot of chances in League One, and some were very straightforward particularly given some of the goals he scored"

Trust Moore to know what he's doing and happy for him to have a go at getting the best out of Wilks and getting him back on track...as long as the gamble isn't too expensive.

Agreed

He actually seems to be a real man manager does our Darren

He's proven time and time again to be able to get the best out of players and develop them

I think we leave £200k on the table but look elsewhere. We want someone pacey running oppos ragged not an elusive player who doesn't show for colleagues. TBF to him - stats re finishing & chances taken fluctuate in most striker's careers. Work rate & attitude less so. We won't canter to promotion - we need to win battles.

The fact that moore worked with him will help a lot they sacked there manger in jan last season as well and Mccann was a huge fan of his and was looking forward to getting him back so could also be a case of a new manger dont fancy him sorry I know this is way to sensible talking lol

Could be written about so many Wednesday players

Seems Hull are driving a hard bargain for a rather injury prone player with questionable attitude if these comments are correct.

Time to call Hull’s bluff and move on to other targets. It’s taking far too long to settle a transfer for a pretty average player. Now or never, take it or leave it because the last thing Hull really want is a disgruntled player on their hands.

Written from the perspective of a season under a manager who doesn't want him.

Notwithstanding,  similar could be said for many young players, he does have an excellent record in L1 and Moore a better man manager than most at this level .

That said, lovely information but is for a player who hasn't even signed despite being linked weeks ago. Has anything changed in the negotiations to make this article relevant?

Certainly ticks all of our usual boxes !

I bet they weren't saying all that when he banged in the goals in League One to get them promoted. Fans have short memories. I would trust DM on this one as Wilks played under him at Donny

No guarantee he is going to keep fit though, we don’t want passengers
