Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Massimo Luongo is on trial at Reading, the Reading Chronicle understand.

The Australia international refused a new contract at Hillsborough after three years with the Owl and will be available on a free transfer.

Coming through the Spurs Academy, he made his name with near-neighbours Swindon Town, being named in the PFA League Two Team of the Season in 2015, before a move to Queens Park Rangers.

Four solid seasons in West London came to an end in 2019, joining the South Yorkshire outfit.

Not a great move for him to be honest, Reading are in a league above but for how long? Luongo wasn't fit for most of his time here, and I don't think he turned up for the two Sunderland games either, it looked like he had his eye on a move elsewhere imo.

Disappointing if true. Even though Reading are above us at the moment, they are an utterly poxy, nothing club. He could do much better

Typically deluded Wednesdayite post. Reading have achieved a lot more then us in the last quarter of a century.

Sadly this is quite true,  ask a football fan or footballer under the age of 21 and they will remember Reading being more successful than Wednesday.   With newer ground and training facilities.

But fortunately we still are managing to be regarded as a big club to the younger generation.

I don’t get the fuss about Luongo to be honest. He has finished once in the top half of the championship in his entire career and even that was a 12th placed finish.

A decent player but a bottom of the championship or top of L1 level player and that’s it. He’s also in a position that it’s relatively easy to replace and he had injury problems throughout his whole time at the club. We’ve done the right thing in not paying over the odds to keep him. In L1 he wasn’t worth breaking the bank for.

If Reading is where he ends up it sums up his career as a bottom half of the championship player. Absolutely replaceable
