Usual journos having a pop at us to make us look worse than we actually are.

Nope

1) it's not the usual journos - Examiner is usually Dom Howson - this is two new faces

2) The journos didn't create the stats or the analysis - they're just reporting on what the analysis says

You can see the original analysis and the Sheffield Wednesday statement on the analysts website

Skewed to include only 185 clubs out of over a 1,000

*sigh*

Again...

The journalist haven't skewed it

They're reported on the figures that the analysts have published

If you have any complaint surely it should be with the people that ACTUALLY said that Wednesday were bottom?

You could say we are the 185th best financially performing club out of over a 1,000 clubs in Europe.

A lot better headline than the one these journos chose.

I think anyone with journalism training or qualifications would most definitely disagree with that.

Why are you focussing on the journalist that reported the news and not the source of the news itself?

Maybe these journos should have asked the same questions that many posters on here have before publishing.

It is difficult to think of a worse financial nightmare than 2021 for a football club. However, those doing well on the pitch with limited resources have experienced a financial boost, typically due to UEFA prize money and increased success on the transfer market.

But who are the most financially-sustainable clubs in European football?

Brøndby IF are ranked number one, after a historic financial year covering European football and their first championship in 16 years.

The Danish club, who have fostered players such as Michael and Brian Laudrup, Peter Schmeichel and Daniel Agger, had an EBITDA margin of 25 per cent, noticeably boosted by income from reaching the Europe League group stages this autumn.

Additionally, the sale of Jesper Lindstrøm to Eintracht Frankfurt increased the bottom line to a net profit margin of 29 per cent, up from a significant deficit the year prior. This effectively pushed the club’s return on assets up to 24 per cent – which is the highest in Europe in 2021.

Scandinavian success stories and old faces

This year, three clubs from Scandinavia make it into the top 10 most financially-sustainable clubs in Europe, and all three became champions in their respective leagues, namely Brøndby IF in the Danish Superliga, Bodø/Glimt in the Norwegian Eliteserien and Malmö FF in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

All three clubs’ financials cover the calendar year 2021, which is why the accounts are boosted by both title wins, and European football in all three cases.

A couple of regulars from Off The Pitch’s celebration of financial performers from the year before are also in the top 10 in 2021, with Hibernian being among top 10 most sustainable clubs for the second year in a row.

Eibar and Atalanta notch up three consecutive top spots, finishing tenth and fourth respectively. While Eibar just missed out on a return to LaLiga in the semi-finals of promotion play-offs, Atalanta also struggled in the recently-concluded season finishing eighth, thereby missing out on European football for the first time with manager Gasperini in charge.

If anyone is curious as to the name of the worst financial performer - it’s Sheffield Wednesday.

Im not sure if anyone has pointed out that this ultra selective crock of shxt 'analysis' that has 3 Danish clubs in the top 10 and a Danish club at number 1 is done by a Danish football site.

Danes have history here. If Carlsberg did football analysis....

And remember Carlsberg is the best lager in the world PROBABLY.

And the key word legally there for anyone unfortunate enough to drink their chemical pizz is probably.

Has DC learnt his lessons? Pretty damming on the way DC has run the club if you ask me!

And I bet if you used different criteria, it wouldn't be the case.  If we were that bad, we'd have been in administration, would we?  Didn't we?

All this thread is proving is that some of our fans are that prejudiced and have already made their minds up about 'media' that any 'media' they just attack without thinking it through or caring for the facts

But caring for the facts is what we are asking for

Obviously. They would always go with bad news over good.

Wrong

If the analysis was that Wednesday were the number one TOP performing club in Europe they'd print and publish that.

Your complaint here isn't with the sports writer but either with the analysts for not publishing the analysis you think they should, or the chairman for putting us in this position

Lazy attacks on sports writers and publications are as tedious as it gets

Successful businessman.

As has been noted elsewhere the article implies that Wednesday are ranked "185th out of over 1000 professional football clubs in the 37 leagues in Europe"; so according to the article DC's business management of Wednesday has been relatively successful; well within the best performing 20%.

We aren't told how many clubs were left out of the analysis for including transfers in their turnover figures; maybe DC should do that in future and thereby easily avoid all this negative press!

PS The analysis by Off the Pitch, and the Examiner's rehash of it, don't stand up to even the most basic scrutiny and are a complete waste of virtual ink. I wouldn't therefore recommend using either of them to inform a reasoned opinion of DC's business acumen.

I normally dont go in for local journo bashing but this is story EXACTLY what responsible outlets shouldnt do.

Take some poorly researched biased rubbish from a two bit outlet.

Dont fact check it.

And give it momentum by putting it on a more trusted media forum where it gets into the mainstream.

Its indefensible.
