Why what happened?

Westwood needed to play so many games to trigger a contract extention

We couldn't afford to pay him another year on the wages he was on, so he was frozen out

I think it was when Lukukay was manager

The manager tried to protect the club by saying he Preferred Dawson

Dawson got stick, the manager got stick, but not the club

Or it could have been when Monk was manager, my memory plays tricks

But that's the gist of it

Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

Someone said that it wasn't true.  Can you prove them wrong?

Not sure which players but I heard we once made one player eat only rice pudding for a month because they did a foul throw. Didn’t even let him put a dollop of Jam on it……Disgusting!

Could have been worse, could have been Tapioca!

Anyway, basically what we have here is a former employee bad mouthing his former employers. Let's face it we've all done it ourselves, nothing to see so let's move on and keep the positive vibes going.

Which players and what did we do worse?

I know we did it to Tommy Miller. If he hit an amount of games we had to give him another year on his deal so we stopped playing him until he agreed to waive that clause in his contract.

In the old days before transfer windows players (at all clubs) would often get sold at this point!

Rang a bell that, cheers

Think it put the player and manager in a difficult spot.

The article said there was something in the contract the club “weren’t happy with” but the club had agreed to have it placed in there, no doubt to get a Miller to sign it and Miller will have thought he’d be rewarded for good performances with another year and a bit of security in his early 30’s.

I think this was very bad of the club at the time.

Devils advocate.

Why does a player have written into a contract that after reaching a certain number of games it triggers an extra term

of contract?

is it not in the Clubs interest to do so if they want the player to extend?

is it not in the Players interest to do so if they want to extend?

is it not fair for both parties to bear in mind what they want at the end of the normal length of contract.

is it also fair to say that one of the parties involved decided to use the agreement to their advantage?

I for the life of me cannot see a problem, both parties signed the agreement.

In fact the Club lost out because they could not use a player on their books because they did not want to extend.
