That's a view that has to be respected as it is founded on recent rather than historic witness, albeit one person's view.

As you say, we will see. If the coaches don't think he's improved enough then I'd expect that he'll  go out on loan again as kicking his heels on the bench wont do him any good.

For what it is worth, the Exeter supporters love him

I like him, I think he is a better keeper than Wildesmith, but he doesn't command his box enough for me

His reflexes are first rate, his positioning can be questionable, but we saw that a few times from BPF

Goalkeeper is such a specialist position, I wouldn't be worried if Dawson was in goal, but over a full season I would prefer someone who bullies his defenders, and because Stockdale is available on a free, it's a no-brainer for me.

You have a go explaining it to some on here......apparently we have to give the (27 this Year) 'Lad' another run out.....even if it condemns us to another season in L1 IF he doesnt succeed.......Just waiting for the clamour for 'Westy' (yuk...) to be brought back...to become deafening..

I keep telling myself to stop biting and ignore the posts

But some posts are so nieve

"The goals are the same size"

"He was awesome in league 2"

"We should give him a chance"

I want to get out of this division, to do that we will need a good solid keeper, there's one available on a free that is better than Dawson.

Ideally I would want better than Stockdale, but he's available on a free, get him signed up and if someone better than Stockdale becomes available, sign him up as well.

Stockdale won't come here to sit on the bench, off the back of playing every game last season for Wycombe...and him turning down another contract with them.

I think that probably is the plan, and proof that DM doesn't rate Dawson, as the focus is short term and on promotion....if we make it to the Championship then we can look at a better calibre of goalkeeper to move us forward, cause Wildsmith and Dawson aren't capable of  consistently performing in the Championship!

I dont ever want another season of chopping those two around every other week...nothing filled me with more dread than Westwood getting injured in the warm up.....some of the players in our shoddy Championship teams might have felt the same too.

You don't get promoted with clean sheets, we need consistent goal scorers, we only score more than 1 goal 23 times last season.

We need a decent keeper but if paying for one means we have no cash for a decent striker and some attacking threat on the wings then give Dawson a chance and see what happens.

They really do love him down there.

According to the bloke who coaches them, Dawson has improved his command of his area, but either way, we really can't complain about bringing in one is the best 'keepers in the division last season on a free.

Whereas there may still be question marks over Dawson's ability over the course of a full season at this level, there are no such doubts over Stockdale.

Solid signing if he comes for a year or 2 can’t deny his record last season and had a good career really . Also weakens a rival . Plenty of good keepers who are well into their 30’s . (Most of below 35+

Ben foster

hugo lloris

Bartosz bilakowski

Westwood for us for years

wayne Hennessy

fraser Forster

guita at palace

to name a few

Guilty as charged to biting and responding to nieve posts,LOL...me too...but how can you ignore them?? i dont feel 'angry' ime not an angry poster (as some imagine)!! me sat here raging over my cocoa...

But i do feel you have to respond and challenge a debate that would see a player be selected (to me anyway) based on nostalgia only....('the lad' etc etc deserves a second chance..)

CD is an Academy product & has enjoyed playing for his boyhood Club,on long Championship contracts....He hasnt been able to either make the shirt his own,or instil confidence in DM that he should go again with him.Equally he hasnt been done over by the Club, one player described coming to Wednesday as 'life changing money'...

Looks to me (at best) he will be no2 if no further loans....

You really do talk so much crap.

Nearly every single successful side has a good defensive record and keeps clean sheets.

Honestly, we are all dumber for reading what you post.

For me it's neither about nostalgia nor about second chances but merely about assessing his current level after his return from a highly successful  loan season. Whether he has improved to a level where he'd be a good keeper for us. No more no less. The naivety for me would be writing him off based on out of date evidence and I'm sure that Moore and his team will be making a more forensic and up to date assessment than any posters on here regardless of our gut feelings.

However it pans out and, I trust Moore  to make the right judgement, I'm pretty sure CD won't be warming our bench for too many games.

There are probably 75% of teams in the leagues looking for a decent striker. They're as rare as hen's teeth and as a result expensive.

He’s garbage. Watch the Ivan Toney video from the season before last and it says it all. He says something on the lines of ‘We know their keeper(Dawson) parries everything so that’s why I was ready to pounce.’
And that’s the thing he’s supposed to be good at! Don’t get me even started on his communication skills and commanding of his area. Wildsmith is also poor but he’s better than Dawson.
