behindthegoal
Many teams in this division and League 2 employ a long throw specialist to augment their attacking options. We have not had anyone like this since Leigh Bromby if my memory serves me well. Should it be one of the qualities we are looking for in future signings?

striker
Paterson has a reasonable throw on him. I think it's a tactical choice not to use it. That said, for many years we've not been very good at throw ins, struggle to throw it a few feet to our own players, never mind further
CourteenerOwl
The logic amongst our fans is that we don't use Patterson throw because he is the only player in the whole team who can get on the end of it - a player who scored about 3 goals last season and is he really even a threat in the box? Even when Dunkley and Dean were on pitch we refused to use the long throw. It does not fit in with Moore ideology, he would prefer to stick to passing around the back so that the media see him as a footballing manager. 2
0114
I think the reason it’s not utilised is that we didn’t have the biggest of squads quite often last season. We regularly lined up with Palmer & Johnson in the CB roles and for as good as Hutchinson is he’s not the dominant aerial type. Even up top, you wouldn’t say we had anyone aerially dominant.
royalowlisback
Antonio used to take a fair few, problem is, you needed him in the box as well to get on the end of them.
OxonOwl
Surely you can get some suitable candidates from your existing squad and give them special training and gym work. I can't believe it is an innate skill. It must be having the right muscles developed and practice.

As other have said Paterson can but if you dont have a team of giants, you are effectively throwing the ball away.

ruscol85
I remember during Carlos’ second season, every time we got a throw in near the opposition area, it inevitably ended up back with our keeper as we flat refused to throw long into the box. Used to infuriate me. Then, and I think it was the only time it happened, Pudil flung one in and Fletcher scored v Newcastle. Then we never did it again Long throws are useful if done correctly. Basically a corner if you’ve someone who can properly lob it
Tarquin
Mitch Pinnock at Northampton is tall with good quick feet and a monster throw in . Check out this years play offs against Mansfield.
shezzas left peg
It would be nice to get a big imposing centre forward that's good in the air in first so they would have someone to aim at.
WalthamOwl
Tommy Spurr was good at long throws.
Holmowl
Paterson’s throwing is like my putting. Perfection apart from length and direction.
oldtawnyowl
I think the problem with Paterson's long throw is that is high and looping which gives defenders a few seconds to adapt. The really dangerous throws tend to be lower and with more power.
millomowl
What's Zico upto? sure he can sling a few into the box. Chapman at the near post flicking it on.....
Holmowl
Being a dinosaur I really like having the long-throw option. Depending on which CBs we sign, and whether we get a Smith-type focal-point, I’d love to see it used as an option.
The Night-Owl
If we sign Vaulks and Smith or similar and a couple of commanding centre backs, then we may see more long throws, set pieces and crosses being utilised
FlyingOwl
Did I imagine Ben Marshall having a long throw? Then we lost him but Antonio turned out to have an even longer one? Throw I mean…
Castleford Owl
Pretty sure we had a long throw specialist in 2011/12 under Megson. Seem to remember quite a few goals direct from throw ins. Think we even narrowed the pitch to suit.
