West Ham and Brentford still after nicking Danny Cadamarteri

Recommended Posts

The two clubs are still after him and pursuing him and to make Wednesday more nervous, Cadamarteri hasn't put his signature on the dotted line here yet and talks have slowed a little.

He says he wants to stay by the way, and has a full year of his scholarship remaining here.

It's a positive that we have good  young players attracting interest. Possibly would be more concerning if nobody interested in them, our academy shows continued signs of improving following years of neglect (pre dating Chansiri).

Hopefully he stays and we can see his development progress.

I disagree, it shows (would show?) that clubs like West Ham can do what others have done successfully before them and hoover up anyone who can kick a ball just in case they turn out good.

I just looked at the income of West Ham, their last income figures were over £220m for the year.   They are the third best supported club in England and spending £1m on a player that may or may not come good is small change to them.

Where is everyone getting that cadamarteri is anywhere near the first team here

I see loads of experts saying he’s going to be used on bench, be in the first team squad.

best he’s going to get which will be great for him is he might train with the first team in preseason

he’s a young talent, playing above his age groups and doing well with huge potential. That doesn’t mean he’s anywhere near ready for first team football yet

certainly not in the next 12 months I’d even be surprised if he made a match day squad in the pizza cup

remember when we tried George Hirst who was doing the business in youth football and older then cadamateri he looked like a competition winner on the pitch nowhere near ready

Fair point, they all (EPL clubs) can, and do. But, rarely (before the Hirst debacle) did EPL clubs bother with our academy IIRC.

Our track record with getting youngster to stay has been poor in recent years.

But our record of taking talent kids and developing them into first team players has been even worse.

I hope we have learnt our lesson from the historic balls up and i hope he stays and is allowed to develop, but I wont be surprised if he end up at another club.

Money talks in Football, would he merit first team wages?

They can have Danny if they want. He’s a bit old.
We will keep Bailey his son. 🙈🙈🙈🤣

We're not blessed with options upfront. I think it's an area of the team that needs a complete overhaul and at least 3 new faces compared to last year - and that's based on Gregory staying.

I don't think there's any harm at taking a look at Cadamarteri from a first team perspective and seeing what he's got.

I also don't think it's about pretending he's going to play 20+ games next year, but about showing the player that there's a pathway towards the first team - starting with training and maybe the odd minutes this year. This time next year he will be 18, and at that point first team football is going to be a real conversation for him, either with us (if god forbid we are still in this league) or via a loan move if he joins a Premiership academy now.

George Hirst is an interesting name to bring up. Most of his best development has happened in the league we're in right now, and according to some recent threads and posts on here lately, now looks a player many on here wish we could sign.
