Which SWFC Players got off to the worst start then came good?

How about Nigel Pearson?

I’ll be honest I didn’t see much of him when he first arrived (in 88?) but in the relegation season I remember him regularly getting pelters from fans when we were struggling.

Then he became an absolute colossus in 90/91 and had a couple more pretty good seasons after that until injury got him and we replaced him with …. Erm…. Andy Pearce.

Mel Sterland, I remember him neshing a tackle in his first game and thought he was useless.

I think he eventually passed the audition.

Remember standing on Newcastle's Gallowgate end as they battered us 4 or 5 nil. Geordie behind me kept referring to Mel Sterland as Puffy Pants. Very strange 🤔

Chris Waddle. Booed early in the season he became Footballer of the Year.

Booed?

I am convinced he wasn’t.

Maybe you are, but I was there.  It wasn't the whole crowd of course, just a section in the lower part of the South stand, at the Kop end. He tried  a couple of tricks in front of them that didn't come off, which was too much for a few young "experts".

He was class from the start.  King and Sheridan made their debuts at Forest which was the first game we had won for a while.

Thought I remembered him getting booed by some of our lot.

Might be wrong though.
