Fablon Dunlop
Jacob Murphy. Absolutely terrible when he first came in on loan. Ended up being a decent little player.
paulrs
How about Nigel Pearson? I’ll be honest I didn’t see much of him when he first arrived (in 88?) but in the relegation season I remember him regularly getting pelters from fans when we were struggling. Then he became an absolute colossus in 90/91 and had a couple more pretty good seasons after that until injury got him and we replaced him with …. Erm…. Andy Pearce. I think he eventually passed the audition. Remember standing on Newcastle's Gallowgate end as they battered us 4 or 5 nil. Geordie behind me kept referring to Mel Sterland as Puffy Pants. Very strange

And I remember one exasperated North stand fan, who'd obviously noticed his unusual gait, shouting 'Sterland, f'ing run reyt'

It wasn't the whole crowd of course, just a section in the lower part of the South stand, at the Kop end. He tried a couple of tricks in front of them that didn't come off, which was too much for a few young "experts".

Rogers
Ian Nolan? I seriously can’t think of any player we’ve signed that started off rubbish and turned it around; it doesn’t happen at our club.

FlyingOwl
Lewis Buxton is the reason why I’ll try not to write off any player at the club. The poster boy of turning things around. Looked scared to touch the ball at one point here. Turned into a player of the season & the white Cafu.
Mid Wicket
Brian Marwood didn't start that well, one or two stood around us on the Kop were wondering why we'd bought him. Took him a couple of months to settle and then became a great player for us.
davetherivelinowl
Has anyone mentioned Bob Bolder. Fans were furious when he was brought in and Turner was dropped to make way. They really let Charlton know when we lost 3-0 at home and Bolder was at fault. We've had some great goalies but he was one of the best.
