In other news why can't Sheffield have a 1940's weekend like this?

Recommended Posts

Never understood this fascination with wanting to go back to a time of war.

Here's a better idea, have a 2040's or 2140's Weekend, and let's see what the future looks like.

Please no. I hate all of this grown people dressing up as something they’re not malarkey.

Middle aged men dressing up as WW2 soldiers, even Nazis.

Just weird.

Every weekend loads of middle aged blokes go stadiums dressed up as footballers half their age.

You can even buy the replica football kits, just like the ones the players wear!

You must hate it.

Down where I live there's small towns that do 1920s theme nights and stuff and they are a good laugh. I think they work better in smaller towns than big cities, but I support the idea of a VE/VJ Day festival sort of thing. I think German, Japanese, or Soviet uniforms would be inappropriate though.

Reminds me of the old gag...

We were a bit poor when I was a lad in the 50s.

To make ends meet, mum had to get the family's clothes from the Army Surplus store.

I felt a bit of a two hat going to primary school each morning dressed as a Japanese admiral.

That looks like a nice, middle England Village which looks like it very much has one foot in the past.

Wouldn't look quite as good on the pictures on Fargate with boarded up Topshop and spice heads in the background.

Sheffield never does it, because there is always someone who gets offended on behalf of the people that are not offended.

weekend like at Haworth are great celebration of where we came from, they also got a lancaster bomber fly-over which was amazing.

but this would never happen in Sheffield, we dont even celebrate our patron saint. Every other country does their but we don't.

?  I don't get it.  Just because things were in the past it really does not make it 'better'..talk about nostalgia overload.

Lancaster bombers flattened German cities and killed thousands of normal people.

what the heck are people celebrating exactly?

you still falling for the national thing?

Why do people like you get angry about these imaginary people that get offended at harmless things?
