The bloke who headbutted Sharp is now in prison, his name and picture are in the press, and he may well lose his job.

Surely that's enough of a message to anyone considering similar?

And it punishes the perpetrator rather than thousands of innocent people.

And if they never get caught?

Yep, idiots are now upping the ante, pitch invasions now including goading and attacking players.

It seems that any goal scored has the potential for a wazzed up , drugged up pratt to run on the pitch .

Not sure how this gets sorted, without punishment and restrictions for the club and a majority of fans.

Make no mistake,  if you go on the pitch you are part of the problem, even if you are doing it 'innocently ' Clubs repeatedly tell fans not to do it.

Expect a clampdown on this

Let's hope fences aren't the answer this time

Fences most certainly not the answer but a way has to be found to stop fans invading the pitch. At the moment it seems to be pretty endemic and some fans think they have a right to run on, it needs stopping and clubs/authorities need to find a resolve. It can't continue.

As someone has already posted , if your fans invade the pitch you lose the game ,that way Everton would have had 40k stewards last night

Exactly.

and he was far more likely to have got away with it due to the huge number of fans on the pitch than if he was the only one.

He’d have been caught whilst on the pitch.

Zero tolerance as far as I’m concerned. Once the threat is carried out a few times, it’ll stop it overnight.

You’ll still get the odd idiot but then it’s a lot easier to deal with and apprehend.

In fact if that Forest idiot had been the only one on the pitch Sharp wouldn’t have caught in the first place.

He only didn’t see him coming because he was distracted by all the others on the pitch.

The ‘innocent’ fans were part of the problem.

Pitch invasions at this stage of the season have become commonplace ever since the fences came down. We’ve seen a few at Hillsborough over the years. I don’t necessarily see a problem with it but recent events are going to get scrutinised by the authorities and that’s to be expected.

Thing is history has an habit of repeating itself and you could be forgiven if like me you were around in the 1980s and see and hear things happening now that are almost identical to how it was back then.

A divisive PM, Jobs/Money issues, Wars. I could go on. I’ve been listening to quite a bit of 80s music and the lyrics are as profound today as to when they were first written and sung. Bananarama’s ‘Rough Justice’ and the Jam’s ‘Who’s the 5 O’Clock Hero’ are good examples.

Anyway as back then, things are likely to get worse before they get better? 😩

One thing you can absolutely guarantee is those running onto the pitch attacking players will cry like babies when caught and arrested

And even worse they'll be that cowardly that they won't hold their hands up and say 'yeah I did it'

They'll try and find excuses like they'd had too many beers etc etc like the dullard cowards that they are

BBC News - Billy Sharp: Fan jailed for headbutting player at end of match
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-61505835

does anyone else find this a bit hypocritical?

"The crown's case is that this is a deliberate and senseless act of violence. It's an assault on an employee, effectively in his place of work."

if a player headbutts another player on the pitch, effectively in his place of work, he's shown a brightly coloured bit of paper and told he can't play for a couple of weeks, compared to the punishment this fan got.

i am in no way condoning his behaviour, but an assault is an assault.

as for pitch invasions, you can't pick and choose which invasions are ok and which aren't, they should all be treat the same way with sanctions on the club.

Then that's the failing of the police.

A single man has committed a single crime (note: the charge of him invading the pitch was dropped by the CPS), and the justice system has dealt with him and him alone.  He alone has been punished for his actions.

The fact that the Forest fan is now doing time shows we have the laws to deal with perpetrators in a quick and swift manner.   What could any new law accomplish that isn't currently achievable?

We have laws against murder, yet it still happens.   Sometimes they are not caught, yet we continue to live as a society freely.

Most murders aren't committed in front of 30,000 people, TV cameras and CCTV - not to mention social media filming of the incidents.

Yes, technically it's illegal, but in reality its in no one's interest to prosecute.

It would be better to say pitch invasions are acceptable but a physical attack on anyone will result in a life ban and a custodial sentence.

drink driving is technically illegal.  should you only get punished if you cause damage or injure someone?

Many Catholic priests and English sports coaches used to love spending some alone time with children.

Why change things?

In fact bring back prima-nocta...how about eugenics?..mental hospitals being tourist attractions?

In my opinion that would lead to (absolute) Bedlam 🤔

Driving is legal
You'd not get punished for driving a car

You'd get punished for driving a car illegally whilst under the influence of alcohol

watching football from the stands is legal

you don't get punished for watching football

there should be punishment for entering the field of play whether under the influence or not
