Although DM said on arrival he had to get the best out of Rhodes, he hardly ever picked him to start even though he was the only true striker on the books, unless you assume that Windass and Paterson are strikers. We could not find room for him. That was dreadful management. 4 games to go to keep us in the division, he plays Rhodes & Windass. We beat Blackburn - survival on. Next games at struggling Boro……..Rhodes dropped to make room for Green!!! Lunacy.

SallyCinnamon
Everybody remember. It is Rhodes fault we paid £10 million for him and forked out a fortune in wages when we already had 6 strikers at the club. All Rhodes fault. Stupid Rhodes for deciding how much money he cost. His fault for joining when he knew the club really needed a new centre half or a wide player to supply the SIX STRIKERS we already had at the club. Cheers Jordan. We pinned all our play off hopes on one player, because that is usually the best way to build a team and get promoted. Spending big on one player and financially screwing ourselves for the next few years and not being able to replace an ageing squad that had failed twice. Yep all your fault Jordan Rhodes. Hope you’re happy. 1

Holmowl
So pleased for Rhodes and especially for Tom Lees. Tom was always head and shoulders our best defender, but Town have turned him into a competent footballer with the ball at his feet. As for Rhodes, we woefully wasted a talent. Criminal management. There where other areas and players that did less for just as much. Hooper n fletcher we’re rarely fit…jones (huge wages), abdi (don’t even go there). rhodes still scored a goal every 5 games for us…in a side that was as bad as anything we’ve seen in 20/25 years. it’s not hard to see how Rhodes made a living and became the championship all time scorer…we rarely (if ever) set up to accommodate the fact he does nothing outside the box etc… How many times did we see it, Rhodes scored 2 away at Bolton…on the bench the following game. Scored an hattrick at forest and gets 45-60 minutes in the following game then dropped. Very poor management IMO.

Personally I pick the five lads who say they want to take one and fancy it. Call it weak minded whatever, but at the end of the day if he wasn’t confident, he wasn’t confident. People read far too much into it. My manager once forced me to a take a penalty at under 12 level. Turned out I was the only player to score on my team.

Rhodes and Lees might be Premier League players next season, whilst Reach and Odubajo were both making appearances for top half Championship teams. Go down a level and Dawson has just enjoyed an excellent promotion season. Players need to take some responsibility for the abject failure that was the 20/21 season, but maybe the way they were coached was also sub-standard? I disagree wholeheartedly that Rhodes was coached incorrectly or poorly. His problem was his attitude and application. We have had players with less talent than him that have applied themselves tenfold more.

How ironic that the lad’s got Huddersfield into the final twice now in recent years…..must be a record to have done so whilst only playing for them in one of their 2 qualifying wins.
