Hillsborough Improvements

Yes it's possible but is it financially viable compared to relocating to a brand new purpose built stadium.

I think any ideas of buying up half of Vere Road and houses on Leppings Lane is a non starter.

The problem with the Kop is access and egress is within a few feet of a main dual carriageway.

We could even demolish the current stands and build a smaller, more efficient and modern stadium on the current footprint.

We don't need a huge half empty stadium. 25-30K capacity will do but there needs to be room for expansion for when we get to the PL. 😉

Why would the purchase of houses be a non starter? What’s different between Anfield and Hillsborough?  You are aware that the club has purchased and demolished houses contiguous to stadium before?

Just a wild guess here…

maybe they have a bit more money lol

what can we do?.. dam up the river, build onto penistone road, buy up hundreds of house

It’s a thought experiment.  I’m well aware we’ve not got the money to do it.
Hundreds of houses? The fact you have to resort to hyperbole only shows the weakness of your argument.

The pitch is a mess after a few games, half the bulbs don’t work in the floodlights, half the ground hasn’t been painted for years and looks like a rust bucket, no hot water in multiple stands toilets.

That’s just basics which we can’t even do right. People clamouring for a bigger ground and more seats must be from a different planet.

The maintenance of the pitch needs addressing,  absolutely

Believe new floodlights been sorted

Rust Bucket ?  Really ? Bit dramatic , few licks of paint and a new boiler ain’t gonna get us promoted is it ,  let’s worry about the important stuff

You don't need any of Vere Road.

There's loads of space behind the North (and all other stand's) to more than double the size of the facilities.

A decent architect us all that's needed

You would in order to circumnavigate the stadium, which would make access and egress easier.

How did Liverpool manage it at Anfield.

Larger space around the ground... no river to contend with + a major city centre artery road.

Plus they had the money to be able to buy the houses around the stadium to demolish... and that was pre-housing price boom. You're talking roughly 38-43 houses that we'd need to purchase (if people were even willing to sell) and you'd need to pay a premium to do so.  You are easily talking 5-10 years to sort that out and £5-7 million to then simply knock them down for a small amount of space in reality.

You'd then still have the river (flood history) and a major road / lack of parking space holding you back.

No brainer in the long term to move.

They bought up several streets with dozens of  houses that they knocked down

(a process that took years). To give them the land to build a completely new main stand.

The Centenary stand is still hemmed in by terraces houses.

They are currently extending the Anfield Road stand by building on the road that runs behind it. Imagine the outcry if Leppings Lane was lost by building a new West stand on it.

The area is still a dump with poor access and no parking. I think originally Liverpool ideally wanted to move to a brand new stadium. They had planning permission and support from the council to build a new one on Stanley Park but changed their minds.

Here is an old article about their situation.

This.

Have to move in the long-term

So, it is possible to upgrade without moving.
To bring Hillsborough up to 21st century standards, we would only need to demolish half of one side of Vere Road and the houses on Leppings Lane contiguous to the stadium.  There is more than enough room within the current footprint to replace both the Kop and West Stand.

Wishful thinking.

What about parking, Penistone Road and the river... that's now on the verge of flooding the ground every 4-5 years?

I bow to your engineering knowledge.

so we’re going to buy up and knock down a whole street, this Sheffield, would probably take 20 years and similarly how do we flatten the kop and rebuild without going onto penistone rd and how do we rebuild the north, south?

I counted 43 houses at roughly £155,000 a piece (based on Zoopla price index).

£6,665,000 + costs... round it up to £7 million just to buy one side of Vere Road + 4 on Leppings Lane + 4 on Penistone Road... then you have to pay to knock them down.

It's just not financially viable for the limited gains we'd eventually make IMO.

Why do you need to rebuild the Kop?

Its basically built on a mound of earth and has poles holding up the roof... if the board in the 80s wasn't so short-sighted and penny pinching, they'd have done it properly then rather than slapping on a cheap roof.

Anyone who uses a once in history event to justify their argument.  Doesn’t really have an argument.

We don’t need the whole street, we don’t even need the whole of one side of the street.  Nothing needs doing to the south and the north only needs expanding at the back to provide for better facilities and access/egress.  Look at the ground on maps, there is an abundance of space at Kop end if the hill is removed.

Same with the south, looks impressive at first glance, but they built on the foundations of the old stand, hence why rows are so small. And why changing rooms, media facilities, catering  etc are not fit for purpose.

and why the roof lets in no sunlight

the north and south are not suitable long term.

id love stay at hills borough if it could be brought into the 21st century , just don’t think it’s possible

There’s nothing wrong with the actual seating area of  the north, it needs redeveloping at the back to provide suitably sized concourses and other facilities.  As someone over 6ft tall who has a st in the south, it’s perfectly suitable for the foreseeable. If the north was redeveloped, there’s nothing to stop new changing rooms being included in the design.

It's possible but will need completely knocking down and starting from scratch. Might as well just build a new stadium in a new location with proper access to and around the stadium.

It was literally millimetres away from being repeated 6 months ago.

Ask any insurers or builders if they'll simply forget what happened (and was nearly repeated in the past year) if you asked them if they could lower the insurance premiums / build on it...

What about the light it would block from all those houses if you started encroaching further onto that space with high stands?

Doubt you'd get it through the planning permission stage with all of the objections.
