Playing at home second is rubbish, and the bookies don’t seem to think it helps either

The higher placed side should be given the option of home or away to start.

I’d much rather play at home first and go out to win it - Sunderland tried to do just that last night, I think if we played first we’d have done the business at home - now we’ve mentally got to come back from a deficit with tired legs.

Don't Sunderland get tired legs they played in the game as well

The play-offs should follow this model. Everyone still has a chance but it’s wrong that a side finishing 6th have exactly the same chance of those finishing third.

Game 1 - 5th v 6th

Game 2 - 3rd v 4th

Game 3 - Loser Game 2 v Winner Game 1

Game 4 - Winner game 2 v Winner Game 3

The National League playoffs changed recently to the following, would this be a better model? Sky still get the same amount of games to broadcast (4 + Final)

Qtr Final

2nd & 3rd - bye

4th vs 7th - 1 leg

5th vs 6th - 1 leg

Semi Final

2nd Vs Lowest ranked winner - 1 leg

3rd Vs Highest ranked winner - 1 leg

Final

SF1 Vs SF2 - 1 Leg

So basing this on League 1 and Top 2 still go up playoffs would be like this:

Qtr Final

MK Dons - Bye

Wednesday - Bye

Sunderland Vs Oxford

Wycombe Vs Plymouth

Semi Final

MK Dons Vs Lowest ranked winner

Wednesday Vs Highest ranked winner

Final

SF1 Vs SF2

That proposal was put forward to the football league a few years ago, which the board itself generally approved of.

It was resistance from the Premier League that brought it to an end. They didn’t want a team finishing 8th in the Championship potentially getting promoted.

It would diminish their competition apparently….

Football is not determined by bookies.

Don't expect it to be easy but if we play like  we have been doing at home, then we will be ok

Crowd need to stay behind team, whatever happens.

Keep the faith and stop searching for negatives. Enjoy the weekend and save those vocal chords for Monday night.

If we’d have won 1-0 at home last night would you be confident with us going to the SoL on Monday?

This 100 percent

We don’t travel particularly well (last night was 2nd best home record vs 7th best away record)

But nor do Sunderland (Monday is the best home record vs 6th best away record)

We need to be non stop loud support on Monday

that sounds daft.. I think if it isn't broken don't fix it.

there's not much wrong with the format as it stands

Some of you are saying but if we played at home, and we’re 1-0 up… we’d be confident going there and going to the final

THATS EXACTLY WHAT THE THREAD IS ABOUT

I wouldn’t be confident with us holding a 1-0 lead going into an away game at a packed SoL.

If we equalize early on Monday we have up to the 120th minute on home soil to get a winner, in front of 33,000 Wednesdayites.

That’s way more preferable.

I’m not saying we’re going to win.

But we have a superb home record and haven’t we scored the most home goals in the country?

Sunderland are a good team. But they’re just another team and their defence, once we got at them, looked just as nervy as ours.

It’s fine margins. If Palmer is an inch taller he nods that ball across and Greg’s has a tap in.

For all of Sunderland’s possession and chances, it’s still only 1-0 and they could regret that.

We need to sort out whatever mentality issue affected us last night
