U Auto do it

Looking at this table and the tenuous grasp holding positions 2 and 3, I can’t help but grin at the thought of sneaking into position 2 by the time it’s all said and done. Does anyone else see it that way? There must be a path. UTO

Have to assume Rotherham will beat Gillingham and MK Dons will beat Morecambe, although there's no guarantees.

So the path is we win all 3, MK Dons draw/lose at Plymouth and Rotherham draw/lose vs Oxford and Sunderland.

It becomes more possible if we win at Wycombe and Rotherham drop points vs Oxford on Saturday. If either they win or we don't win then it would be over.

Guest Theboylangers

This had just popped up on my Owlstalk adverts. Reminds me of the Littlewood catalogue when I was 15.

I think the 2 points dropped at Bolton in the 90th min put paid to Autos but until its mathematically impossible i will still hope.

Yes, spot on.

But I'd rather be chasing something, as we are, than desperately trying to cling onto something like the Millers.

Why obsess over this one game we drew?

We have thrown away other leads and countless scenarios contribute to a season.

It's still a long shot, but it is ever so slightly more in sight than before kick off tonight.

Win our last three and who knows.

Quite remarkable really when you think how far off we were only a few weeks back.

Makes it all the more frustrating, as we clearly have a squad capable of a top 2 spot.

Not obsessing over one game , merely pointing out that the result in the game mentioned ended any realistic chance of automatic promotion, the late equlisers we conceded at Ipswich and Wimbledon did not make Automatic promotion any less likely at the time the result at Bolton in my opinion did.

In the same way as beating MK Dons quite probably ended their automatic hopes.

Again on saturday the result vs Wycombe is highly critical a win for either team and its the game that pretty much guarantees playoffs, a draw makes it probably for us and possible for them a win for us makes it unlikely they will end up in the playoffs. A win for them and it means its still possible we end up in the playoffs but makes it more  likely we could miss out.

As you say results all over the season count but generally there are defining games, my opinion ours comes on Saturday, avoid defeat i think we are in the playoffs. Lose and i have a nasty feeling we may miss out.

Because that was the last game we threw something away in and it was recent. The others ie Wimbledon away, Ipswich away, Oxford both games were ages ago and we've had chance to even those out. That Bolton game was a sickener.

Its value over the season is the same as other games.

No one game will be reason we dont get autos.

Even if we lose at Wycombe I still make us better than evens to make the play offs. It will still be in our hands and even losing to Wycombe then drawing at Fleetwood will leave us in the driving seat against Portsmouth. The other teams are all playing each other and will also drop points. Plymouth, for instance, might not get another point given the 2 games they have left.
