A tour of Sheffield City Centre showing all the changes so far

Recommended Posts

cheers, you're probably right [100% right] I rarely make any sense, but that's my perception of the city center. I don't know what roads I can still drive on, what roads are still there, where I can park etc etc so I don't come into town anymore.

PS walking is a bit of an issue and I like where I live now, it's a lot greener. Anyhow I'm happy to leave the city center to the next [or next but one generation] I've had my turn.

Yeah fair points - it's definitely changed so much and more so in recent years

I have no problem with change at all things HAVE to move on, I watched the Gimbal Walk video and enjoyed it, [I've watched loads of em, thanks by the way] some of the changes [probably most if not all of them]  are making a vast improvement to the city center for the majority of the people who use it. Like I said earlier I've had my turn, let the young'uns have their go and then like me they can bleat on about it in 40 years just like me. 🙂

I'm getting on now so know what you mean about letting the younger ones have the city centre - I just find the changes really fascinating to see

Thanks for watching the Gimbal Walk videos by the way - that's great to hear!

As for Sheffield City Centre - I'm hoping this next stage of the improvements really makes the difference

The Moor needs sorting tho!

One slight correction. The building at the bottom of Castlegate was NOTthe old Town Hall, but the Criminal Courts. I well remember going thee in early 1970's and finishing up on a Murder trial jury/

Nice to see a park being built on he old Fish Market! My favourite call whenever we went shopping used to be the Boiled Sweet shop in the entrance. Sure their 'Spice Fish' were mini-sharks! yum Yum.

I'll also recommend the Sheffield history photos Facebook group that does this stuff.

We normally do a tri-annual walk from our house in Wadsley out towards Bradfield and back around. This time, because of the weather, we walked from West Street top, down through the back side of town, towards the railway station. Then out the back of there and up over Sky Edge and down towards the Victoria Quays. Along the canals, swap over to the river and back into town near Savile Street and into the Fat Cat. Tram home to Hillsborough. Perfect.

It was a friend who sort of gave us the tour and I loved seeing parts of the centre I didn't really know existed.

A good day it was.
