Our youngsters beat Wigan 4:0 and reading on Wigan's Twitter it looked like it could have been even more convincing.

Again, SHOCKING coverage by Wednesday so most fans didn't even knew that the game is played. Wigan had match preview and line-ups on their official site as well as following it on their Twitter account.

Nice work again Malek. 👍

I believe that a proper coverage of youth games on social media could make the difference for a young lad, which academy he chooses.

It doesn't

Don't be so ridiculous

So you do not believe that social media is extremely important to kids between 10 and 16 years old?

If a talented youngster has the choice between us and "the others",  what do you believe is the deciding factor?

(provided  contract conditions are similar and the parents are neither blades nor owls)

Visibility on social media is a big thing today.

Even personally if I was Father of a talented footballer deciding what club my son  should join I would certainly think that likes of Leeds and Sheffield United who show most of their youth games live and market them on social media take their interest in youth football more sriously.

I'm sure that I can’t be the only one thinking like this.

If a kid is talented enough to have several clubs after them then usually the contracts on offer will be the big deciding factor - they won't all offer exactly the same terms if the player is coveted enough

But many of you seem to have this impression there is a huge pool of 15yr olds waiting to be snapped up - the vast majority of them already are and the transition to the full time ranks anyway

If they wanna leave then they have to either be released - in which case the point is neither here nor there - or another club has to pay the agreed rate for the player

And from a wealth of experience i can tell you the deciding factor in the vast majority of cases is the size of the club

If a kid has the choice between Man U and Blackpool where do you think the majority will end up?

Occam's Razor

In the majority cases it really is that simple

Well wigan seem to expose there youth games extremely  well and  our bunch of anonymous kids have just stuffed em  4-0 so hasn't done them much good or ours any harm .

I'm not talking about 17 year old youngsters leaving the club because they get snapped up by bigger clubs.

I am talking about promising children, who are starting to take football seriously and are looking for their first club.  I am not talking about contracts/money/ManU.

You are talking about a completely different topic it seems.

Sheffield children will not be snapped up by ManU, but they will go to us or the blades.

Those children want to be able to share links with their friends and their family.  Children today are hooked by social media.

It is important for most youngsters to be present in the media. It is important to the club, to be present to attract the younger age group

In the old days, people wanted to be rock stars, today they want to be youtubers.

I'm not talking about 17 year olds either

You explicitly stated 10-16 yrs old

So seems you shifted the topic

I mentioned 15 yr olds - mainly because they are the ones that will be going into full time football at 16

Not even worth talking about 10yr olds - imo they shouldn't even be playing academy football but as they are then the scouting for these falls into a couple of categories - kids who sign for any club that wants them or kids that have a choice will invariably opt for the biggest club

Occasionally other factors come into it - convenience of location, family being big fans of the club they want to sign for, siblings already at academy...

And the big clubs can take kids from anywhere if they wanna finance it

We talk about completely different things!

I'm talking about getting many kids to join our academy, hoping that we find some jewels on the way.

For me, social media is an important factor for this purpose.

If you find that ridiculous than I won't be able to change your opinion.

All that huffing and puffing and negging the club and ends up they have covered the game

Yes but after the game has taken place. People want to follow the game live and other clubs in this region tend to offer that service. A report on the website the following day isn't  great is it. Some of the group games didn't even get that. Poor

So three trialists, two of them scored, one getting a hat-trick.

I hope we're scouting some more good prospects to join next season's youth teams, it certainly feels like we're making progress in that area these days.

You seem to see this as people bashing the club for the sake of it.

it’s not, it’s a desire to be the best in every aspect and on this topic we are doing very little.

it might be ridiculous but also it might not.

what would the harm be in doing more than we do.

There is no harm in doing more

But that won't be the deciding factor in anybody joining us

Which is what I was replying to

I agree. This is one of the areas where we can be as good as anyone and can compete. We might not win trophies, get the best players or have the most money but there's no reason why we can't have the best Academy coverage by social media. Some of the best coverage comes from the smaller clubs. We won National awards for our programme back in the day so its hows what can be done with some effort.
