Moore’s Future if Promotion isn’t reached

Didn’t the good run coincide with the injuries meaning Moore couldn’t tinker with his selections?

Not in the autumn. We lost pace big time then throwing points away. First month of the season we were top and then from Christmas onwards we have picked up points.

because the quick and dirty is rarely sustainable and good in the long run

You can't built a proper foundation (as  Jim described) and expect immediate success at the same time.

Look at our history!

So PW at Rotherham can do it,but we cant at S6?..cant get out of a poor Division with mainly Championship players AND begin a rebuild at the same time?...

I agree to a certain extent. But non of those teams were slapped with a 12 point deduction last season and have a slightly bonkers owner who is notoriously hard to work with, at the helm.

At one point we were ravaged by Covid, with a rumoured 7 players training in the first team. The following results were illustrative of that.

On top of that, we've. Had a hideous amount of injuries - something that Moore seems to have been desperately trying to deal with. I think it was 12 first team players at one point?

And the fact that he has managed to assemble a squad full of championship experience speaks volumes about the appeal of working with Moore. He must be doing something right. Why would he not appeal to incoming players next season?

So no other L1 team has had to deal with injurys or Covid issues??.... 12 point deduction was last seasons problem, cant be used for an excuse for poor performances this season...and TBF The Chairman(ime no fan!) has backed DM with signings/wages this season...

For me, it all depends on the way we deal with the next six weeks. If we slither out of the play off zone with barely a whimper, then I’d say he should go.

If we reach the play offs and lose over two legs, I would still think he should go.

If we get to Wembley and lose out, whilst it would clearly be bitterly disappointing, I would probably back him to be given another chance.

If he gets us promoted, I’d be made up but expect him to struggle tactically at the next level and be gone by Christmas.

Hope I’m wrong on all fronts and we go up with an impressive performance at Wembley in front of a full house, preferably against Plymouth. Then go on to have a strong season and finish top ten in the Championship.

Just off to A and E to have some fence splinters removed from my 4rse crack!

Right I’m going to stick my neck out and try to explain why my attitude towards Moore is totally different to my attitude towards Monk and then the good old folk of OT can shoot me down in flames.

This season hasn’t been perfect by any means. It was never going to be. Some aspects of this season have been under Moore’s control, other aspects like the constant injuries haven’t.

Despite everything we still have a chance of promotion which wasn’t universally being predicted on here at the start of the season like some are saying. I think you’ll find relegation was a big concern amongst some. We’ve been nowhere near a relegation battle this season.

Do I like the passing style of play?

That we are actually scoring goals and winning regularly at home?

That we might finally have sorted out the Bannan conundrum?

That players aren’t constantly frozen out?

That the players seem to enjoy playing for their manager?

That the manager appreciates the support of the fans?

That the manager tries to look after the well being of his players after injury?

That we make early decisions on young players to try and give them a chance of a future elsewhere but give us a chance to bring others in who can potentially grow with us and do better?

That we push youngsters like Cadamarteri, Hall and Holland up the age groups quicker to potentially bring them up to first team standard quicker?

That we regularly have young players train with the first team?

That we have a manager who looks at the welfare of the entire club rather than just himself and the first team squad?

An emphatic YES to all of the above.

But let’s get rid of him because he has played NML as a central striker in 3 games where we’ve picked up 7/9 points.

I’ll tell you one thing, the next manager should we replace Moore in the summer may well get us out of League 1 but we’ll falter eventually because the foundations aren’t in place. We stick with Moore we’ll eventually prosper because the foundations actually will be laid.

Nobody who had a clue was predicting relegation for us this season after the squad was finalised. We’ve underachieved this season.

We don’t know how to win games when it’s tight and tactically we’re disorganised in those games.

Sorry mate but that doesn’t make sense to me.

A bad refereeing decision either way could make the difference between winning or losing a playoff game.

I don’t think you can decide if a manager is right or wrong for the job based on that.

PW has been there since 2016, which is far longer than DM had.

Rotherham is still a jo-jo club - that is not my idea of a sustainable development.

I want to get back to the PL within the next 10 years and don't go up and down between league one and championship

And what about the away form? It’s lies, damned lies and statistics and if we don’t go up it’s a massive failure regardless of the statistic you use to back up your argument.

The away forms average, I get that but if we sack Moore and bring in a promotion specialist, we’ll eventually end up in League 1 again because no one has put the foundations in place. It’s not as if this isn’t the third time this century this has happened, is it and it keeps happening because as a club we keep feeding hand to mouth rather than taking the time needed to prepare a really good meal.

Completely take your point mate, but that’s the way of the game surely. Hence I realise we could be unlucky in the final, but over two legs if we go out then it’s a failure, even if it’s to say Sunderland.

Like I said, I hope the reality is much more palatable and Moore gets us up and surprises us in the Championship.

I do think we will get to the play offs and have predicted 83 points in another post. Am I confident Moore can outfox the likes of Alex Neil, Paul Warne and even the novice Schumacher at Plymouth? Not   really.

Hope I’m wrong.

PW took over from Kenny Jacket late on in the season, and got Rotherham promoted at his first attempt from L1,he achieved in his first season, what i expect from DM now in far more trying circumstances, and way less money..

Nice bloke, crap motivator

I don't get the crap motivator thing.

The players are clearly playing for him.

Tactically a bit naive I could go with; crap motivator not.

I would give him the first 5 -10 games personally and see where we are and how we are doing.

I think that is realistically what will happen with Chantiri reportedly getting on well with him. As poor a Chairman as I think Chansiri is, I do think he try’s to support his managers the best he can in terms of finances and time (unless you’re Tony Pulis, in which case you can simply get f***ed).
I can’t see him just sacking him if we just miss out, I think he will let him at least attempt another go but he will be under a lot more pressure to get it right from the start of the season should that be the case.

Hmmmm.

If we miss out on the top 6, then I think some serious questions have to be asked tbh.

If we do get in the play offs, but come up short, then I'd stick with him, albeit he would need to get off to a positive start next season.

There are things I like about Moore, the recruitment, the style of football we usually play, but then I do have some misgivings about whether he's the guy who will eventually get us promoted.

Also worth saying that with our chairman's track records, we could end up appointing someone much worse.

Yep basically this.

I think he has to make the top 6.

However sacking him if he doesn't win them would be harsh considering the amount of chance/ luck involved in the playoff format.

And next season the target set would have to be automatics.

Cannot believe some of the leniency shown in this thread.

We will sleepwalk into being League One also-rans if we're not careful. Look at Sunderland.

Not sure this is a great example to back up your argument since Sunderland have had 7 managers (including caretakers) since relegation to league 1.

Maybe manager roulette isn't always the answer.

Good post,

My first thought is no, he should go.

He failed to keep us up and made some truly baffling decisions in that run-in. Right now he is threatening to finish 7th again with the baffling selection up top of a winger when we’ve two far better options who were scoring.

But would DC find gold or brown? I fear the latter.

I really really like Moore and I’d love him to succeed, but boy I find him frustrating. We were better when the decisions made themselves.

Massive fingers crossed he comes up trumps.

Sunderland also got the manager in few months back we should have gone for in Alex Neil.

I fear that may come us when we face of hem in play offs.
