The danger of dropping in-form players

Deary me. How can anyone willingly want Patterson to start games upfront.

As back up or throwing him on but he’s not a striker. Gregory and Berahino were brilliant last Saturday so like Moore you just want to abandon that?

Windass back next week too so thankfully Patterson will be pushed way down the pecking order upfront and can concentrate on getting in the team where he’s better.

If Windass, Berahino,Gregory,  are all availabl and he puts Patterson on, then he needs sacking.

I don’t think they would.

Of all the positions on the pitch, striker is all about form. Never interrupt a striker when he’s scoring. Paterson (who I readily accept isn’t really a striker) was scoring. Berahino was scoring. Gregory hadn’t been scoring.

I’d be starting Berahino and Paterson. At least until Gregory gets fully match fit and until he nabs a goal.

Gregory was sensational for the hour he was on the pitch against Cambridge

At the moment our best pairing is Berahino and Gregory imo

Well they put the goal in the back of the net while Gregory recently doesn't

When you have a team that has the least amount of goals in top 8

10% of them in one game

Do you want someone whose in form scoring or someone who holds the ball up

I like Gregory

But hes paid to score goals

Just like our defenders and gk are paid to keep clean sheets

Gregory has been out injured you berk so this "recently crap is just stooopid  he's been back what 3 or 4 games not 11

Have you analysed all the games that Paterson didn't play in and included them in his recently ?

I don't need a stat to tell me that Gregory is a better striker than Paterson ( and i quite like Paterson especially his attitude ) i see it on the pitch almost every game Gregory starts, he thinks like a striker because he is a striker and makes runs appropriately Paterson isn't and doesn't

Specialism over Utility every time in attack

If the games open where we can play football use our wide men and midfield it’s Gregory and berahino if it needs grinding out and we need more muscle up to and to be uglier it’s Gregory and Patterson

if we’re unsure then it’s option a reverting to option b

not sure why we are heading around with our starting positions in defence and wing backs though keep it consistent

What a difference a month makes, eh?

Gregory has been vital to our impressive performances of late, and has scored 4 in 5 since this thread was started.

We've also taken 17 points from the 7 games he's started since returning from injury. (2.43 ppg)

It's great that he returned to the squad when he did, and his importance to the team in this vital period can't be overstated.

Let's just hope he can keep it going and see us through to something really special by the end of the season, eh?

Paterson and Berahino were in great form.

Paterson 4 in 5.

Berahino 5 in 6.

Gregory comes back. We clamour for his inclusion, yet he’s scored once in his last 11 games. None since his return.

It hasn’t worked. Do we persevere starting him or bring him off the bench?

Gregory brings so much more to the table than just goals.

his hold up play, distribution and general play bring people into the game and creates space for others.
vital part of the team

Good post.  I was also really impressed with his defensive work, closing down, chasing back v MK Dons.

I know

I'm just saying hes been injured

Berahino and Paterson are our only strikers scoring in a team that doesn't score

They should be given a run

Not just starting Gregory for the sake of it

Luke is welcome into my time-machine so we can go back to 19th March to start the “I know we are winning every game but Gregory has to come straight back in” thread.
