Oh I thought this was going to be a referrence to Wilko's team with Bannister and Varadi. Oh happy days and with a resplendent PRESTO stand.

It doesn't need painting over. Its needs a good quality clear varnish to bring out the lettering nicely.

Excellent.😉

If they are still using the stand excuse then put a big mirror on the North to reflect the sun, job sorted.😁😁

Funny how from 1995 to 2015 that the stand built for Euro 96, did not affect the pitch at all, it must be the coastal erosion thats causing it to suddenly have an effect after nearly 26 years of no effect.

OR

Could it be the desso pitch that was put in 5 years ago has not been properly maintained and now has got to a point where it is affecting the playing surface.

A mate of mine was head groundsman at a pro club and they had a Desso

He was an extremely talented groundsman and was headhunted to be the head groundsman when New Wembley first opened - he said he wouldn't touch it with a bargepole for reasons that quickly became apparent/ Anyway...

He used to do the daily maintenance on the pitch at his club - minor repairs and grass cutting etc

But the pitch had to be generally maintained by Desso specialists which was by a company contracted to keep the pitch pristine

From memory this involved at least one major refurb per season with the pitch stripped so it looked bare - the grass was re-seeded and the artificial fibres were treated by some special machine

Then it was given a few weeks to regrow and re-establish

In the season they would visit a few times and the pitch invariably look as good at the end of the season as it did at the start

This pitch also had premiership rugby on it

My guess is that our pitch looks so horrendous because it hasn't been maintained in line with recommendations

If it has then we should be due a hefty refund

To my completely untrained eye or knowledge, something about the Desso when it was first installed looked a bit 'off'.
Like it had furrows in it or something.
It didn't look the way I expected it to after seeing all the perfect pitches on TV and ours just didn't look as 'smooth' as daft as it sounds.

Maybe I was just seeing things but could it be possible it wasn't installed properly to begin with?

GrassMaster

Description

GrassMaster is a hybrid grass sports playing field surface composed of natural grass combined with artificial fibres. It was developed and patented by Desso Sports in 1993. This hybrid grass system is now developed by Tarkett Sports after a takeover of Desso Sports and has been rebranded since as GrassMaster.

Sorry GrassMaster, ours is scheite ! When are you going to fix it ? We got one season out of it, Just one !

From pitchside , close up on the South Stand side the surface didnt look as bad as it looks on the photos. Didn't really cut up and generally ran true. Didnt impact on the game as far as I could tell. Seen it far, far worse many times over the last 50 odd years and indeed within the kast 10 years.

That said obviously not up to normal desso standards admittedly though.
