waverley_owl
As we do every week, we had 'The Debate Show' over on Twitter where we ask for you to come on and have your say on SWFC. As you can imagine the big talking point was the current state of the pitch and Giles had something interesting to say having spoken to a few of the players recently. Giles: "I've spoken to a few of the players and they've said it's not very nice [the pitch] to play on. It's very hard underneath... and they think that's one of the reasons why we're getting so many injuries." >>> LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE <<< Do you think there's any truth in that? Can we attribute the hard ground under the pitch as to why we're picking up so many injuries?
graz gp
Well the players play on the pitch and they play on all the different pitches. So you would think they would know. This problem with injuries has been going on for years. It definitely needs sorting. So you would hope its investigated. Uto
Shetland Owl
Could make sense, back in the 1970's players played in a mud bath and clubs seem to put the same side week after week. Would be interesting if anyone can find some facts. Seem to think Leeds and Liverpool generally had same players (Only 1 sub allowed at that time) Also this is a newish pitch, what about all the seasons before when we had lots of injuries
graz gp
If the base is too hard, does it matter what kind of turf or whatever pitch is laid. But you would think everything would be checked out before laying a million pound pitch. Uto

Mr. Chow
id assume thats hillsborough, with the players getting injured when playing rather than in training.

prowl
How is ground hard or soft? I can see solid rock might be hard and sand softer but I presume it's not solid rock. Genuine question I though all ground was pretty much the same and it depended on the depth of turf.
Popular Post McRightSide
The pitch is so hard that it’s even able to injure players when we’re playing away from home 5 1
Kopparberg
Wonder if the away team at Hillsborough has the same issue then …. 1 1
SiJ
Would a hard pitch lead to muscle injuries? I can't imagine a hard pitch is the cause of a hamstring tear, is it? But yes, the pitch is utter crap.

mogbad
I was under the impression that a characteristic of Desso pitches is that they are generally harder than non Desso surfaces.
Owlinmad
It's a pity the players aren't a bit harder.
alanharper
Yet the fact remains that this supposed pitch problem is only injuring the same old players who always get injuries, whereas the group of players who rarely get injuries still rarely get injuries. Perhaps in future our medicals should just involve the players running on the pitch for an hour and seeing if they break or not. 3
