I know it's probably laughable but what about buying a couple of those machines that clear surface water from huge cricket pitches?

Perhaps they could be hired on an as and when basis?

I've forgotten what they're called.

Is it called a supersoaker, something like that. Also I know the height of the south stand is having something to do with it, but just put sky sports 401 on Wgan v Leeds at  Wigans ground .The pitch looks perfect ,if know rugby's only just started but its making Hillsborough look terrible. Got to be sorted quickly. I can see allot of games being off cus I don't think we've done with the rain yet.

Just reduce the width of the pitch - install a holding tank for water when the drains are knackered, replace every other roof sheet with translucent on stand roof and put the lights on more. Much cheaper than signing more loans and paying players thousands a week for not playing

yep I also know this for a fact. I didn’t know tim personally but I have friends who knew him really well. it’s not just a simple case of uncle tim and a lawn mower kinda job is it???

Your dead right. Nice lad who only had Wedneday at heart. Lost a good lad who only wanted the tools to do the job.

We spend £1m on a new pitch and no one checks how the desso works with drainage.

we have had no problems for 5 years now all of a sudden the stand that was built 26 years ago is causing the pitch to be muddy.

rollocks i suspect This is just the latest excuse in a long line of them.

Get some qualified ground staff in who know what they are doing not some kid on a yts contract, give them the time and the equipment to get a playing surface we should have.

We really do make every aspect of the club a farce.

Good video and plenty to think about. But it’s not really a stretch to think we’re cutting back on maintenance. That’s not a criticism of the ground staff(who I’ve no doubt are working their spuds off). It’s a criticism of an owner who’s strategy at swfc has been flawed. .

Theres no thought about it. Last Head groundsman Tim left because they club wouldnt provide extra and improved specialist equipment for the groundsmen to use on the pitch. They haven't the tools to maintain a high maintenance playing surface hence the serious derioriation. Your dead right, it is a specilaist job and requires specialist equipment to maintain and look after. ******** pot poor from an owner who seriously hasnt a clue how to run a football club. By the way, the club lost a long serving committed member of the workforce due to shortsightedness and stubborness. Where have we heard that before.

Your post is bang on and I understand he constantly highlighted all the issues that needed addressing. This was a man who was payed less than a non league groundsman and often prepared the pitch by himself, worked seven days a week and always had the best interests of the club at heart. With the knowledge and experience of previous Head Groundsman you’d have thought the club would be tapping into their knowledge of what is currently going wrong with the pitch.

A quick point regarding the interview on the lighting rigs. It states that the lamps are constantly in use when the weather forecast is good. I drive past the stadium daily and through December and January they remained in the car park. This was a period when we didn’t have any games and surely an ideal time to grow more grass and make the grass stronger through a busy period of fixtures.

The whole thing was completely rebuilt in 2015 - drainage and all. Only way that goes bad is if it’s not looked after properly. And the root of that will be always money.

Good article about how technical it actually is to produce what we come to expect from the top level stadiums.

It won’t be the staff’s fault. They’ll be doing their absolute best with the tools that they have. But like everything in the Chansri era lots thrown at the short term not enough on building the long term sustainable future.

If anyone is inclined to watch grass grow it’s all on YouTube still.

I couldn't have picked a worse person to start a debate with over solar panels. I will concede whilst I'm only this far behind. lol

Thanks for the info. As I am sure you can tell, I know very little apart from roughly how this all works. Funnily enough my mum/step-dad are considering getting them done on their south facing roof. £12K total cost. It's something they have looked in to, not some salesman bashing on their door flogging them something they don't want or need. I will ask them about the maintenance costs and ask what the cost is, and over what term.

No problem..

There are several company's popping up like these now.
