More unmarried parents being less uptight about which parent’s surname the kids use, so they get both. I think historically, a double barrelled name indicated the shame of a barsteward, I.e. born out of wedlock.

What gets me is, with the vast increase in double barrelled names, why are there no quadruple names appearing?

I've already had an e mail at work from a woman with a triple barrelled name🙄

I seem to remember a lot of female American athletes in particular during the 80s/90s suddenly becoming double barrelled.

Historically I thought the double barrelling was done by the landed gentry to keep their family names going, it now seems to be council estate single mothers who give their sprogs Frogmella or Kaydean the distinction.

Just give them one surname or the other and stop being pretentious you flanges🤔
