Gary Neville Derby Interview

He’s right but the only way to stop this is do away with parachute payments to failed clubs by having flexible player contracts to counteract lost revenue.

And allow owners to spend whatever they like if they can prove they have the money to spend thus doing away with ludicrous FFP rules which don’t allow non premier league clubs compete for a place at the top table.

I think if you even took a cursory look at a lot of clubs’ accounts it would horrify fans.

Derby are the tip of the iceberg and I’m sure there are many more in the same boat or soon to be in it.

Far too late now but wage caps should have been introduced years ago, along with any dodgy bonuses. If the wage cap for Prem was say £10 to £15K per week that would be it, no million pound house or yacht thrown in, a simply salary and nothing more. If you were found to be fiddling the rules you get a points deduction not a fine.

I sound like an old man but the wages and transfer fees are quite simply obscene. I don’t blame the players but some League 1 and probably all Championship players earning more than a surgeon who actually saves lives, again obscene. Yes I know they are paid big bucks for their skills in what is essentially a small market of choice but come on.

I’m sure I read that Sala wants £400K a week and that won’t make him the highest paid player in the world, I hate to think who is.

Don’t even start me on parachute payments 😡😡😡

I used to hate Neville as a footballer, but since he's become a pundit, I rarely disagree with him. He speaks a lot of sense and isn't afraid of speaking out.

Put Man Utd aside, he's a football fan, and has a lot of knowledge about the game from inside. Someone like him as a representative, not for one single club, but for football in general in a place like parliament could only be a good thing, surely.

A Prem wage cap of £10 to £15 would actually kill the game in England.

No foreign players, all the best English players playing abroad, no English teams in the Champions League, less fans less tv money less money to trickle down the football pyramid and ultimately no kids aspiring to be the next Salah or Kane.

Don't think that's quite right. Kids wanted to be footballers when the maximum wage was £20 a week. It does have to be a more or less FIFA wide initiative to succeed. We can't go it alone. There would be massive legal wranglings anyway if they tried to bring in some kind of wage cap.

I agree and I forgot to mention that it would have to be world wide. You are right, if it was just the UK we would go backwards, it should have happened many years ago, perhaps, early 90’s?

It’s immaterial anyway, it didn’t happen and won’t happen.

You’d rather it be just absolute dickkks who hate you and don’t act in your interests?

Sounds great that mate

Keep doffing your cap

Sorry for having an opinion, but I don’t want champagne socialists  trying to drill left wing bile into me.

Lineker, Neville, Benedict Cumberbollox , Russell Brand, Russell Howard,  the list goes on
