And the one year extension offer was for what exactly? To carry on paying part of his wages but now they've backtracked on that?

1 year extension was the contract that he signed with wednesday.

Nothing to do with Cardiff after 2022.

But we have asked them if they would subside

Cardiff paying the difference to get him off the books does make sense. He was on a decent whack there supposedly.

Not sure how it affects a renewal though, surely he doesn’t expect to stay on the same money he was at Cardiff? He’s a League One player now, he was a newly relegated PL player when he was earning that money.

Me neither - considering the restrictions we always seem to be under.

We may have had to wangle loads of strange deals even to get free transfers

Just to make sure I've got this right.

Paterson moves from Cardiff to Wednesday, Cardiff still pay part of his wages up until his Cardiff contract would've expired?

Has this ever happened before?

Then to add to that strange situation, Wednesday want to offer an extension to Paterson but still want Cardiff to pay towards a player that has absolutely nothing to do with the club?

If I've got my head round that properly then that's the strangest thing I've heard.

Yes it happens all the time.

Teams wanting to get a player off the books will top up the wages of the club taking him to help get rid.

Paying 10k instead of 30k is still a good saving, for example.

Think its more the fact he will have signed a contract with us on 20k ( widely rough estimate)

50% from us and Cardiff helping us out by paying the rest to get him off the books.

Problem is, we can't afford to pay the full amount from next season, and Patterson is entitled to it.

Why would Cardiff subsidise after 2022? Is there anything in it for them?

Maybe a percentage of sell on our something. It seems so bizarre to me that they've approached Cardiff and this that they might also think man city are lining up a £674333567m deal, so a 5% sell on would be a great deal.

His contract runs out end of this season doesn’t it? He’s not entitled to anything after July 1st, especially not his old wage considering he’s now playing in a league below, arguably two.

Keep it simple. Just do t offer the clown a contract 🤷‍♂️

Rock and a hard place for Wednesday.

We won’t want to be seen as letting (yet more) experienced players leave for free… yet possibly can’t afford to keep him.

The club seem to want to keep him if possible - wasn’t there talk a bit back by Moore, saying the club was looking at a new contract ?

But he'll get what he wants anyway because he will be in the championship again next season, whether we are or not.

No one in the Championship will be paying Paterson what he’s on here. Just ask Rhodes, Lees and probably Reach. All more than likely took cuts to get moves, especially Lees & Rhodes going to Huddersfield.

Do you think there’ll be championship clubs queueing up for Pato?

I think he’d be lucky to find a championship club… it’d be a league 1 move or back to Scotland for him

Where he could also ask for a signing on fee, if he wants.

Player wins. Wednesday lose (other than us finding a new cheaper player)

We do have an automatic one year extension, don't forget.

Which is what reggae will mean with the Cardiff dealings.

It will be on same wages but Cardiff have nothing to do with it anymore.
