We were on the John Street for that game. Didn't keep quiet though, they were far from amused
S25OWL
Has to be the old den in 91 - concrete blocks thrown at the buses from the railway bridge - what a game 4-4 but when we went 4-3 up the barrage of coins, spitting and abuse at us in the triangle was unbelievable - never been happier for them to get a 4th and draw - otherwise I think it might have been fear of our lives getting out there
upperwinngardensowl
Man Utd in aforementioned match....there was real hatred in their eyes West Ham in the 80's But for being afraid for my safety its nearly getting crushed to death coming out of Millmoor in the 70's . Crushes were a regular thing at away matches but that place was a death trap.. 2

Justbeanz
Cup game at Anfield in 80's. Kicked off in Stanley park. One lad got slashed quite bad. Scousers were all "tooled up" with craft knives. Nawty to say the least. Edited January 11, 2022 by Justbeanz

We were in the stand which when we scored a late goal to put us in the lead was invaded by Manc thugs who started laying into anyone and everyone. In true Wednesday style we conceded 2 very late goals and all calmed down. Same for me chap... We could only get tickets in the stand down the side.. It was bad enough when we went one up but as you say we let two in right at the end..pretty horrific outside after the game finished tho... We couldn't find our bloody car either....

Tommycraign10others
I remember Stoke away late 60s. John Ritchie scored the goal for us on his return to their ground. The group of Stoke fans waiting for us as we left were not congratulating us and the police dogs seemed as big as donkeys. Never been happier to find our coach
Steve Down South
Newcastle away in 1984 wasn’t pleasant, although the Gary Shelton overhead kick made it worth the trip.

lanzaroteowl
I'm pretty sure that I should have been scared loads of times during away trips in the 70s and early 80s. But for the most part I was drunk and either didn't notice or didn't care

In fact t'was the only time i've ever been "scared" following Wednesday I remember going with my old man I was seventeen. It’s the only time I have seen my old man show real concern at a game. It was scary!
Baldrick
St James Park late 80’s when we sent them down. Think it was a Hirsty wonder goal, green and white hooped shirts Open terrace at the away end back then, loads of Geordies waiting in the park opposite the exit. Got a police escort some of the way then had to walk back to the car on our own. Locals gave chase, we did Starsky & Hutch entrance to car, wheelspinning away as they continued to run alongside the car. Pulse rate racing !

panda800
Derby 88-89 season no trouble with Derby fans just the coppers on horseback lashing out for no reason 1
114mphAndRising
The Man United semi-final was absolute carnage. It was almost like the police had decided to just leave them to it after the match as we all came out. The return leg at Hillsborough was extremely lively as well given all the stories that had done the rounds about Old Trafford.
Bulldog
Old Trafford at the "Dambusters" game. Lost all the guys I was with and walked back to the car with my head down as angry Mancs were literally pulling people out of their cars Edited January 11, 2022 by Bulldog
