Alan Smith describing an injury Lyons received in the League Cup Quarter Final v Liverpool.

Amazing he played on after treatment and it didn't keep him out after. He played every game (53) in that season and scored 5 goals as he captained us to promotion back to the top flight.

Yeah but that adonis in the bukta kit.

I seem to remember a thread, or a post in a thread by someone saying he lives in Australia now & has great memories of his time with us.

Great times actually to be a Wednesday player or fan.

G

Great player, hard as nails. Warrior and a leader, could do with someone like him now.

He wouldn't be out for weeks with a little knock or strain like our lot are these days.

Exactly! Well said.

Plus the pitches in his day were nothing like as easy to play on as they are nowadays.

Players just generally got on with things then. There was only one substitute per team allowed in his day.

Loyal too, Mike Lyons played over 500 games for Everton & the Owls.

Proper legend!

Love this.

Just before my time as a player. How good was he, compared to say Pearson / Anderson?

He was everything this current team isn't..

can you imagine what the reaction would be from the present squad if he’d walked into the dressing room at Shrewsbury at HT and told them what he’d thought about them ?
