Popular Post talon
…..why DM isn’t up to the job, this is it. A routine cross into the box. Count the defenders, look at the marking. If this happened in a Sunday League game, there would be f**k to pay. Shocking. 11 5
areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Yes, our centre-backs were unbelievably bad last night. The sooner we get Iorfa, Hutchinson and Gibson back, the better. We've somehow scraped through playing Johnson, Palmer, Brennan and Paterson in there, but the lack of proper centre-back know-how was ruthlessly exposed by Sunderland. I wonder if one or two of them were still feeling the after-effects of covid, too?
theowlsman
For each goal the defending was atrocious, non-existent, leaving the keeper exposed each time. We need a proper, full time defence, not a makeshift unit. Defenders are easier to find at this level than anything else. Should be our priority. 4

Mr. Chow
time to stop depending on injury prone players to come back to fitness each and every time, its the same sorry story every season.

But these players are 'professional' players, and surely as such should have a general clue what to do?
MRGRIM
In the build up to those goals, look how far Brennan has come out of centeral defence to close down. The back 3/4 whatever it is is completely disjointed
4evaowl
Appalling marking but BPF should have come out and caught that cross too. Such a shambles. 4
McRightSide
Moore didn’t make Palmer jog back into the box to play the man inside, and then job towards the near post to leave him alone in the middle And you can’t say that Moore should have dropped Palmer because he’s been doing fine in that position
Inspector Lestrade
I can't imagine why the OP isn't a football manager he makes it sound all so simple. He would never suffer a defeat, probably for the best thats he's just a poster, he would dominate the footballing world. Fascinating 2 2
torryowl
For someone who's whole career as been at centre back to drill his players to spread out and leave unmarked strikers to roam free is appalling. 2 1

It's almost as if he hasn't drilled them to do that, isn't it?

Fascinating The notion that you need to be some sort of a footballing mastermind in order to see that this was utterly unacceptable is an interesting one. This isn’t an FA coaching badge level critique, discussing the relative merits of zonal marking vs man-to-man. This is Y7 school football level basics. If you’ve got any kids, show them the photo and ask them what went wrong. 1

Start off with the primary school stuff, and then work your way gradually up from there. In fact, you wouldn’t need to. The Y5/Y6 coaching pretty much covers it.
