If One Photo Sums Up…..

Recommended Posts

Yes, our centre-backs were unbelievably bad last night.

The sooner we get Iorfa, Hutchinson and Gibson back, the better.

We've somehow scraped through playing Johnson, Palmer, Brennan and Paterson in there, but the lack of proper centre-back know-how was ruthlessly exposed by Sunderland.

I wonder if one or two of them were still feeling the after-effects of covid, too?

…..why DM isn’t up to the job, this is it.

A routine cross into the box.

Count the defenders, look at the marking.

If this happened in a Sunday League game, there would be f**k to pay.

Shocking.

Imagine Arsenal's offside trap looking like that.

Yes he's the manager and gets the blame, rightly so.

But these players are 'professional' players, and surely as such should have a general clue what to do?

I can't imagine why the OP isn't a football manager he makes it sound all so simple.  He would never suffer a defeat, probably for the best thats he's just a poster, he would dominate the footballing world.

Fascinating

The notion that you need to be some sort of a footballing mastermind in order to see that this was utterly unacceptable is an interesting one. This isn’t an FA coaching badge level critique, discussing the relative merits of zonal marking vs man-to-man. This is Y7 school football level basics. If you’ve got any kids, show them the photo and ask them what went wrong.

You could even try Googling ‘football drills defending crosses’, if you consider things like this to be of an expert level.

Start off with the primary school stuff, and then work your way gradually up from there. In fact, you wouldn’t need to. The Y5/Y6 coaching pretty much covers it.
