Is media coverage disrespecting African Cup of Nations?

Recommended Posts

It doesn’t get the same coverage as the World Cup, Copa America or the Euro’s because it’s mid-season.

Like it or not, most fans want to see their team play more than their country.

I get the point Wright is trying to make but, it’s not race. Its scheduling that’s the issue.

If the English players had to choose between representing England or, the club which paid them 100k+ a week, the questions would be the same.

But what if the tables were turned?

Africa has the world's best club league, the African Nations Cup is as important as the World Cup. Then along comes the European Championships and the African clubs won't release their European and British players because they need them for their league fixtures. How would the Euros/Brits react to that?

The African players in Britain/Europe should be allowed to go. It's disrespectful at the the minimum to prevent them (probably contractually wrong as well).

But the competition basically ruins the league sometimes, for example Liverpool don’t have a chance now, they’ve been punished because their best players are African. If it’s to happen there should be better scheduling to fit everything in properly.

Because Nigeria f*cked up

Clubs cannot refuse to release players for FIFA competitions - even if injured/ill

Ranieri said Nigeria missed a deadline to advise the Premier League club that the forward was being considered for selection.

BBC Sport Africa understands the NFF conceded it may have left it late and is now in a weakened position to request Dennis to travel.

Infairness don't sign African players then, it's not like either has done a Zaha and decided he's a different nationality just to play International football.

Yeah, I bet Liverpool didn’t know a bloke called Sadio Mane was African. It’s a problem of scheduling, I agree, but it’s not right for clubs to ***** about it.

It's obvious that clubs won't like it. Why does it happen this time of year, too hot in summer?
